The blue sky background is the real background, not altered by photoshop. Taken in near Granite Falls, Minnesota in August of 2005.

I wonder what Mr. Longerbeam felt on this day seventy-five years ago today? I can only image the relief, the joy, the elation that must have gone through his mind and the minds of his fellow prisoners held in camps throughout Germany. Victory. Freedom. Return to home. What could that have been like? The 376th HBG was the first American airforce unit of its size formed in Great Britain and served longest at a single base of all the US Air Corps units in the European Theatre. Flying out of Thurleigh in Bedfordshire, the Group - as a part of the American 8th Airforce - flew missions against the enemy from 1942-1945. Durning the campaign against the Axis, the 8th Airforce alone sufferd mor casualties than the entire US Marine Corps did in fighting in the P:acific. Durning one of those dangerous missions, Mr. Longerbeam's B-17 was shot down over Europe. The terror of being shot out of the sky, struggling to parachute from a damaged aircraft, landing in a hostile country and then, being captured by the enemy... it is unimaginable to me. And yet, today, seventy-five years later, I try to imagine. If I cannot, it is because men like L.C. Longerbeam had to undergo this ordeal to free Europe from facism and to leave to me and us all, a world better and safer for his sacrifices. Thank you. You remain my heroes... on this 75th anniversary of victory in Europe as always.

The kitchen staff was setting up for our Labor Day Barbecue as I went by after breakfast.

This gorgeous bright red pop can caught my eye and I grabbed it for the day's Red photo! :D

Hoop Dancer Naperville IL.Pow Wow

Although I'd never been before, it was truly magical to witness the pow wow grand entry and dance off at the annual Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival in Tvshka Homma last night. The costumes, the colors, the textures, the young and old dancers...all so breathtaking. I chose not to do anything to the pictures because I think they're striking just the way they are.

Best viewed large and on black. This is Oklahoma!

Three portraits of French POWs. The photos were probably taken in the Chemnitz-Ebersdorf POW camp.

This is what I've been processing lately. Sea is the subject of choice in many occasions. As a main theme, a background colour, a far colour essence etc. This is all with the K-70 and my FD lenses, a 50/1.8 and the 70-210/f4. I must say I'm very pleased with the results.

Dancer at the Pow Wow at Edgar Evins State Park in Tennessee.

This was a typical indoor pow wow held in a school gymnasium. For six dancers they turned off all the gym lights then turned on two spotlights one behind them and on on the side allowing for these exceptionally unusual photos!

The Blog has been updated, you would be silly not to check it out!

Every once in a while when I am commenting on someone's photos and I find a particularly striking image, I'll just put "POW!" as the first word.

It's like the image smacks you in the face with color, contrast, light, whatever.

This was a difficult hike and at 1.6 miles one way, a little longer than we usually do. But BOY was it worth it.

Comments and favorites always welcome. And please check out my group Waterfall Critique.

My sons are now full-on into super heroes. I've also been trying to get him to punch properly, with thumbs outside of his clenched fist.

Near Oroville, Washington; the Pow-wow Drive-in Theater opened around 1955. The interesting, but somewhat offensive, sign is along the highway pointing to where the theater used to be.

Day 364.

A snowy day in the woods, the highlight of which was Isaac tossing snowballs at us and shouting "Pow!". Two more in comments.
