A pow-wow (also powwow, pow wow, pauwau or pau wau is a gathering of some of North America's Native people. The word derives from the Narragansett word powwaw, meaning "spiritual leader". A similar gathering by California Native Peoples usually in the fall is called a Big Time. A modern pow-wow is a specific type of event for Native American/First Nations people to meet and dance, sing, socialize, and honor Native American/First Nations culture...Wikipedia.
This was a typical indoor pow wow held in a school gymnasium. For six dancers they turned off all the gym lights then turned on two spotlights one behind them and on on the side allowing for these exceptionally unusual photos!
Saturday was spent on a trip with my sister Laurie and sister-in-law Joyce to the 113th annual Pow Wow held in Arlee, Montana. The Pow Wow Grounds was filled with venders from all over the country selling everything from fry bread to silver and turquoise jewelry to hand beaded goods and much, much more. The activities included Competition Dancing, stick games and Drumming. It was a very colorful event and well worth the trip. This is just a sample of the views from the event.
Thank you for viewing. Now I need to catch up with all of your wonderful images that I missed Saturday.
