It was over 30 degrees Celsius and I could not believe the dancers' energy. I always loved Pow-Wows. I only have a one lens for wildlife photography and was unable to rent one for that day. I am glad I did not as there was so much dust around. So the Point and Shoot was a better choice in the end but so slow to focus though.

Clark Dunbar a réalisé une série de magnifiques portraits après avoir assisté à plusieurs Pow-Wow amérindiens !

I was in a community garden as the late afternoon sun was coming through the flowers, and I loved the way it made this allium sparkle...almost reminded me of fireworks.

Pow!

This burst is probably higher than a 10-story building. This is about 40% of the original frame at only 210mm with the subject over 1km away, so this gives you some idea of the size of this thing. The noise there today was deafening, but so awesome... the force of nature at it's best.

Even though this is the only entrance into the attached subway station that is not an elevator, this tunnel is not part of the subway system. It's technically a city street, and is maintained by the NY Department of Transportation.

A pow wow (also powwow or pow-wow) is a social gathering held by many different Native American communities. The word derives from the Narragansett word powwaw, meaning "spiritual leader". A similar gathering by California Native Peoples usually in the fall is called a Big Time.

Belgian POW art made from an aluminium canteen

one side reads " remember Munster Lager 1914 "

the other side " remember Soltau 1915 "

13 x 11.5 x 5 cm

Munster and Soltau were POW camps in Niedersachsen; Lower Saxony in Germany.

The first Belgian POWs arrived in Munster after the Battle of Liège. They were housed in wood army barracks. Within a few weeks tents were used to accommodate new batches of prisoners.

Soltau was known as ' The camp of the Belgians ' . The first Belgian POWs arrived in August 1914. There was no accommodation for them; they slept under the stars. A first camp was built by the POWs [ as far as I know both from Munster and Soltau ] in the course of the autumn and then a second camp was built, right next to the first.

In late autumn 1914 the prisoners of Munster Lager were sent to this 2nd camp while it was still under construction.

Soltau became the largest of the POW camps in Germany. Over 70.000 POWs were interred there during WWI.
