A random tap in the middle of a stairwell wall at the Art Gallery of Ballarat. This place is a hidden gem and I was pleased that the lady at the reception area talked me in to viewing the collections.

Always wanted a nice view of a big thunderstorm, and a few weeks I finally got one! It was a little far away but I still got a pretty sweet show. The colors are natural, don't know what caused the different shades of electricity, but I sure like it!

More from this shoot. This was the shot I actually had in mind when I wanted to do this but I ended up liking the other one better. I was partially inspired by this really cool scene from the movie "The Prestige."

Metaverse is an online, 3D virtual space concept that connects users in all aspects of their lives. It would connect several platforms, similar to the Internet and containing different websites accessible through a single browser.

The concept was developed in the science fiction novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. However, if the idea of a metaverse was once fiction, today it looks like it could become a reality.

The metaverse will be animated by augmented reality, with each user controlling a character or avatar. For example, you can host a mixed reality meeting with an Oculus VR headset in your virtual office, finish your work and relax in a blockchain game, then manage your cryptocurrency portfolio and finances, all inside the metaverse. .

You can already see some aspects of metaverse in existing virtual video game worlds. Games like Second Life and Fortnite or tools for socializing at work like Gather.town bring together multiple elements of our lives in online worlds. Although these apps are not the metaverse, they are somewhat similar. The metaverse does not yet exist.

In addition to supporting gaming or social networks, the metaverse will combine economies, digital identity, decentralized governance and other applications. Even today, the creation and possession by users of valuable objects and currencies contribute to the development of a single and united metaverse. All of these features give blockchain the potential to power this future technology.

Make plans now to stay up late or set the alarm early next week to see a cosmic display of “shooting stars” light up the night sky. Known for it’s fast and bright meteors, the annual Perseid meteor shower is anticipated to be one of the best potential meteor viewing opportunities this year.

The Perseids show up every year in August when Earth ventures through trails of debris left behind by an ancient comet. This year, Earth may be in for a closer encounter than usual with the comet trails that result in meteor shower, setting the stage for a spectacular display.

“Forecasters are predicting a Perseid outburst this year with double normal rates on the night of Aug. 11-12,” said Bill Cooke with NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office in Huntsville, Alabama. “Under perfect conditions, rates could soar to 200 meteors per hour.”

An outburst is a meteor shower with more meteors than usual. The last Perseid outburst occurred in 2009.

Swarms of grackles have been arriving in Houston lately. I was approaching downtown on Hwy 45 the other day when I spotted these and had to shoot through the windshield while driving.

That's the Houston Police headquarters building in the back ground for those who are familiar with Houston.

In my case, that potential isn't very good. Most of the time, I'm lousy at pool, but I enjoy the hell out of it anyhow. Especially when alcohol is involved.

Bigger, Blacker... and stuff

I noticed this little fella on the way to work this morning and thought "thats got potential" then with these later nights I managed to get home just before sunset and seen it again and had to shoot it. Not only does it have good shooting potential it is also a symbol to me that spring has begun regardless of the freezing temperatures!

LOL....it should be pretty safe, there are regulations! This is the Fermi Nuclear Power Plant. I took this from my seat in the car with my best friend Derek last week!

Honestly, I don't like this, and I'm not sure why I'm posting it. Or maybe I do.

You see, I've been thinking about something the past few days, and in a way, this photo sums it up.

Lately it seems like everyone I know are saying "I don't care, it's who I am" or set out on ventures to "figure out who they are". I won't lie, I'm guilty of that a lot too.

But, yesterday, I kinda realized something: It's not about who you were, are or think you are. It's about who you can become.

Now, I'm not saying that figuring out who you are is a bad thing, at all. What I'm saying is that none of us should let it hold us back from becoming the person we CAN be.

I've seen who I am, and it's not someone I can be very proud of. So instead, I like to keep my focus on who I can become, by the grace of God. I'd much rather get to know that person, really. She's pretty cool.

Landon Everhart (WW): Mrs. Braithwaite, thank you for joining us today. To begin, what prompted your decision to run for a position on the Hogwarts Board of Governors?

Cecily Braithwaite (CB): It's a pleasure to speak with Witch Weekly. My decision to pursue a seat on the Board of Governors at Hogwarts stems from my lifelong commitment to magical scholarship and education. Hogwarts holds a special place in my heart—it's where my own magical journey began. I believe I have a wealth of experience and insights that could contribute significantly to shaping the future of this esteemed institution.

Landon Everhart: Your accomplishments in the field of magical scholarship are indeed extensive. How do you envision Hogwarts evolving under your guidance?

Cecily Braithwaite: Hogwarts is a beacon of magical learning, and I envision it continuing to uphold its tradition of excellence while embracing innovation. I believe in fostering an environment that encourages not just rote learning, but also critical thinking, exploration, and the study of ancient magical practices. My vision is to enrich the curriculum with a broader spectrum of magical studies, ensuring that Hogwarts prepares students for the complexities of the modern wizarding world.

Landon Everhart: Could you elaborate on the specific changes or additions you hope to implement within Hogwarts' curriculum?

Cecily Braithwaite: Certainly. I aim to advocate for the integration of more in-depth studies into ancient magical civilizations, arcane magical theory, and esoteric magical practices. These areas hold immense potential to broaden students' perspectives and deepen their understanding of magic's origins and complexities. Additionally, I believe in promoting interdisciplinary studies that bridge traditional magical subjects with real-world applications.

Landon Everhart: What sets you apart from the other candidates vying for a position on the Board of Governors?

Cecily Braithwaite: My lifelong dedication to magical scholarship, my extensive experience in advising magical institutions, and my commitment to nurturing the next generation of witches and wizards distinguish me. I bring not only a depth of knowledge but also a passion for fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking educational environment.

Landon Everhart: As an influential figure in the magical community, how do you plan to balance your scholarly pursuits with your role on the Board of Governors, if elected?

Cecily Braithwaite: My scholarly pursuits have always been intertwined with my dedication to education. If elected, I intend to continue my research endeavors while ensuring that my insights and experiences benefit Hogwarts. I believe my scholarly work will further enrich the educational landscape at Hogwarts, contributing to a more dynamic and comprehensive curriculum.

Landon Everhart: Thank you, Mrs. Braithwaite, for sharing your vision and insights. We wish you the best in the upcoming election for the Board of Governors.

Cecily Braithwaite: Thank you for the opportunity to discuss my aspirations for Hogwarts. I am truly honored, and I hope to serve Hogwarts and the magical community with dedication and wisdom.

Markhor is a wild goat and one of the most beautiful wild animals inhabiting the mountainous regions of Pakistan. The animal prefers living on dangerous and steep cliffs of the mountains to protect themselves from the attacks of wild predators including snow leopard and wolf. Also these high cliffs provide safe refuge from the hunters, who wishes to get at least one pride trophy of markhor in their hunting life. The male markhor is more beautiful while having long twisted horns. These animals have strong role in the food web of the mountains ecosystem and their presence ensures to keep it in shape both for nature and humans.

Pakistan hosts seven Caprinae species with 11 sub-species occupying habitats from the hills in the southern desert to the high alpine areas of the Himalaya (Hess et al., 1997). Most of the worlds Caprinae population inhabits Pakistan’s lower altitudes, use steep slopes, loosely covered by bushesor open forests, providing readily available rock bluffs as escape terrain.

Broadly, there are divided into two categories: flare-horned markhor (Capra falconeri falconeri) and straight-horned markhor (Capra falconeri megaceros). Flare-horned markhor includes two sub-species: Pir Panjal or Kashmir markhor and Astore markhor, whereas straight-horned markhor also includes two sub-species as well: Kabul markhor and straight-horned or Suleiman markhor. The Chiltan Markhor has been categorised as Chiltan Wild Goat.

they are potential prey for snow leopards, brown bears, lynx, jackals, and golden eagles. While not directly causing their endangerment, the already small population of markhor is further threatened by their predation. Hunting for meat as a means of subsistence or trade in wildlife parts adds to the growing problem for wildlife managers in many countries. Poaching, with its indirect impacts as disturbance, increasing fleeing distances and resulting reduction of effective habitat size, is by far the most important factor threatening the survival of the markhor population. The most important types of poachers seem to be local inhabitants, state border guards, the latter usually relying on local hunting guides, and Afghans, illegally crossing the border. Poaching causes fragmentation of the population. into small islands were the remaining subpopulations are prone to extinction. The markhor is a valued trophy hunting prize for its incredibly rare spiral horns which became a threat to their species. The continuing declines of markhor populations finally caught the international community and became a concern.

Antony, the founding father of the monastic movement, is alleged to have said: ‘A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him saying, “You are mad, you are not like us”’ (The Sayings of the Desert Fathers. The Alphabetical Collection, tr. Benedicta Ward, SLG, p. 5)...

....The world and the Church are mad when they circumscribe human possibilities of serving God; it is left for the ironic sanity of the monk or nun to demonstrate –at some personal cost –that God’s call is a far stranger thing than any human social definitions might allow.
