Paper matters, and the first and last word in fine papers is French. Sadly, too many large volume presses have few incentives to work with a wide range of papers and, for small runs on digital presses, designers are often limited to a depressingly small range of papers from which to choose. Chattanooga’s Wonder Press is the exception to the rule, offering a wide range of fine papers for high-quality low-run digital printing. Widgets & Stone worked with Wonder Press to seed a formal partnership with French Paper through a series of posters inspired by the work of mid-century graphic artist Weimer Pursell – all printed on French Papers, of course!

Karl-Heinz Drescher (* October 7, 1936 in Quirl; † May 19, 2011 in Berlin) was a graphic artist working at Bertolt Brecht’s world famous theater Berliner Ensemble as a graphic designer for almost 40 years. In addition to his work at this house, Drescher also worked for other organizers, museums, galleries, and theaters, amongst others the Akademie der Künste der DDR, the Maxim-Gorki-Theater, and the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin. His catalog of works today comprises over 400 posters, about one third printed with letterpress.
In a one-year research, the designer Markus Lange contacted Drescher’s family and conducted various interviews with companions and friends to find out more about this talented designer, who studied from 1955 to 1960 in the former GDR at the same school as he did (Burg Giebichenstein, formerly Hochschule für industrielle Formgestaltung).
For the first time, this book summarizes most of Drescher’s (typographic) posters in one comprehensive volume and contains texts and interviews by various authors such as Dr. Friedrich Diekmann, Dr. Sylke Wunderlich, Helmut Brade, Niklaus Troxler, Gerd Fleischmann, Jamie Murphy, Erik Spiekermann, Ferdinand Ulrich, Götz Gramlich, Peter Kammerer, Vera Tenschert, Cesarina and Alessandro Drescher. “Karl-Heinz Drescher—Berlin Typo Posters, Texts, and Interviews” serves as a review of the life of an extraordinary theater graphic designer but also as an inspiration for the here and now.

second draft of the poster design.
reworked with a few more items hidden to give the viewer something to search for.
also editted text for the dates so its easier to read.
Really proud and honoured to work with Sid Lee for Sport Chek's latest campaign for the Toronto Raptors called #MyNorth. This project meant a lot to me as it's for my hometown Tdot and I get to hand draw all 9 neighbourhoods that make up the GTA.
This was definitely one of the most ambitious illustration projects I have taken on to date. The illustration took over 160 hours to finish which included countless all nighters and weekends. Special thanks to the talented Joanna Ambrosio for assisting me with this project. We've been enjoying all the photos of the actual posters, billboards and paste ups we've been seeing through other people's Instagram posts from Toronto.
December 2014.
always tryin to switch things up.
try and do something different than whats going on with the rest of the posters in my city.
DISCLAIMER: no bunnies were actually harmed in the making of this poster...

This is a font I made of my brother, Ryan's handwriting. I have always loved his penmanship, and he has always wanted his writing to be a font. Perfect combination!
This is just another poster I created.

This poster was created for the 'Flee to Allah' Lecture in Arabic presented by the Ottawa Muslim Association (Ottawa, ON)
The target audience of this event was Arabic speaking Muslims in Ottawa.
The concept behind this design was to illustrate - to the viewer - the idea of breaking free from the shackles of this life and fleeing to Allah.

An outdoor company, through TGO, organised a competition to give away some of their products at a Mountain festival in Edinburgh. They needed a pop up poster to sit by our stand.
As its outdoor and involves rock climbing, I wanted to give it a fresh but rough look. The washed out colours of the climber play well against the bright oranges of the background.

I can actually go to a German theatre now - well I understand about 85% of what they say.
