Jean D’Ylen was the pseudonym of Jean Beguin (1886 – 1938), French born artist and designer who was commissioned by Shell-Mex on many occassions in the 1920s and '30s for eyecatching designs that emphasised the company's progressive attitude to advertising and publicity. This is a lorry bill, or poster, designed to be carried by Shell delivery vehicles and is one a large number of such posters created by the company.
It appears in the 1932 edition of Poster Design by W. Graffé.

NUMBER THREE IN A SERIES OF 1-2-3.
AN UNUSUAL OPTION. This is a portrait setting with a stylized frame theme, in poster format.
This poster idea allows for an extra dimension in framing, an outer border with a message area. I've used a generic message here just to give you a general layout. The real thing would likely be more personal and special.
Poster format suggests a poster size print. Certainly possible (for a wall), but it could just as well be a print in desk-top dimensions. Screen-saver? Party banner? Cake frosting? Greeting card?
The poster format's image area itself was the #2 of three options in this framing series. A glass theme was established early-on in options #1 and #2 by the illusion effect of a faux cut glass inner border. That continues to set the display stage for this #3 version as well. The poster format print is at its best mounted in custom beveled glass, completing the classy glassy context. A jewel-like end product and a fine personal gift.

Apparently the lead singer from BJM rocked up late & fell over drunk all night, then couldn'tr even DJ. Sorry I missed it.

The Greengrocer's Apostrophe: A sign advertising "banana's" makes me want to shout "the banana's what?" Nothing belongs to the banana. So I decided to give the banana possessions, by sticking labels saying "banana's" on various objects.

By January 1917 the European continent was still locked in the desperate struggles of the First World War and this issue of the German poster magazine "Das Plakat" looked at war propaganda posters of the Germans allies in the Central Powers. Other wartime issues look at German and indeed Allied propaganda posters; the war effort relied massively on civilian effort, morale and indeed support for funding as participant countries spend massive sums of money on armed forces and armaments.
This poster "Zeichnet 5.5% dritte Kriegsanleihe" or "Subscribe to the 5.5% third war bond" was issued by the Austo-Hungarian Empire, in Wien/Vienna, and is by noted artist Erwin Puchinger. Puchinger (1875 - 1944) was an artist and teacher and associated with figures in the Vienna Secession (das Wien Sezission) and the new wave of Gesamtkunstwerk. The image is one based on the ideal of the chivalrous knight whose sield is protecting women and children at home.
