A seminal American poster - the work by Joseph Binder for the 1939 New York World's Fair that was the winning entry to the official competition. Showing the The Trylon and Perisphere, the two monumental modernistic structures designed by architects Wallace Harrison and J. Andre Fouilhoux, that were together known as the Theme Cente against a night time background. Subsidiary to this focal point are the skyscrapers of Manhattan, an express train, steamship liner and in the sky nine aircraft.
Joseph Binder (1891 - 1972) was an Austrian born graphic designer and artist who first worked in Vienna, setting up his own studio in 1924. Although successful and noted for his poster designs, Binder decided in the early 1930s to re-locate to the USA and in 1936 he set up in New York. Binder not only successfully navigated a major change in nature of the business of commercial art in the US from his native Austria he also began to design works in a different style, helping develop a very strongly 'American' style in graphic design. As well as this 1939 poster for the World's Fair he also submitted winning entries for the 1941 National Defense Poster Competition, sponsored by MoMA. During the 1940s and '50s he worked for numerous prestigeous clients. Retiring in 1963 he returned to his first love of painting until his death in 1972.

The closest one to our Sun. You can't see it with the naked eye. It's far away for us. And at the same time close. With flashes and oscillations and radiation in all ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum.
An unsteady star and fickle, as it should be. It looks too dull in the sky. It abruptly changes its brightness, its luster, its energy explodes, in the upper layers where the atmosphere.
There are planets all around it. Lifeless at first sight. But anything can be. The triple star system. It is alive in its own way. But the one closest to the Sun, it's as if it's alone, accidentally being there. A quirk rare in nature, exotic, mysterious Proxima.

I had one funny situation as a kid. I visited my mother's parents at summer. There wasn't much fun in the village but I'd like to point out, my grandfather was very good at playing cards. I was school-aged at the time and I started playing cards, too. Knowing that, my grandfather suggested playing.
It was a nice, warm evening, we sat down at the table, my grandfather shuffled a deck of cards and we started. The game was simple, I understood the rules despite my young age. In the end, we played all night.
I remembered that story for life. Grandfather did not cheat, everything was fair, he won 54 times, I won 8 times.

Work at the station has recently uncovered these amazing advertising posters in non-public areas and that date from c1956 - 1959 when the station's lifts were removed and replaced by escalators. These are in an old lift passageway and will be safe.
This is a poster selling the virtues of travel and trips on the Thames. I'm uncertain who issued it as I doubt it is an LT one.
The photos were taken officially - please do credit London Underground in any links.
We will be leaving these intact - and please do not pester the station staff as the posters are wholly inaccessible - which is why they've probably survived 50 odd years!

I talk about what is inherent in each of us, absolutely, without exception. It doesn't matter who you are or where you live, your profession or hobby. I'm talking about character. There are so many people, so many differences, but exist and many coincidences. Someone by nature is very calm and balanced in the soul, and someone, is the exact opposite, explosive, fast, impatient, sometimes aggressive. One man go with the flow, in this life, another, against the current. But there are funny cases when a person combines seemingly incompatible things. It's like ice and flame.
