For "Making Meaning" with Prof. Lucy Hitchcock, we were randomly assigned social issues. We then had to create a poster for or against.
For my latest process pieces for Design Cuts, we’re going to have fun creating some inspirational posters!
These posters will show you some great ways to work with the 22 fonts available as part of this week’s bundle, walking you through some basic typographic principles, more advanced text functionality, as well as various other handy design techniques.
Let’s get started!
We will pull no punches nor silly puns, and put together a poster for a boxing event, for the second tutorial exploring the complete vintage designer’s kit.
The process will have us explore the customization abilities of the bundle’s typefaces, layout ideas to accommodate the long swashes and tall capital letters, and weathering tips and tricks.

It's always nice doing something super minimal that still communicates everything that's needed. For Bob Mould, someone who has been carrying the punk rock banner for decades, a flag seemed fitting. But there is also a sense of a struggle in the new material and I liked the ambiguity and mixed messages with the flag in this position (is it half mast? is a white surrender flag being raised? lowered?).
Bob Mould actually says it best in a song off his new album, "The War":
And all these songs I write for you. They tear me up, it's not hard to do. Listen to my voice. It's the only weapon I kept from the war.
And I can soothe every ailment you endure. And I can see into the future most assured. I don't have a choice. It's the only life I know after the war.
Everything we made, reduced to dust. You were the one who taught me most. I carry your remains. Your emblem and your name. Nothing left will ever be the same.
And this war we fought was violent and long. Weeks turned into years but we keep on keeping on. The ringing in my brain. Is what remains.
This war has worn me down. Broken dreams and a hole in the ground. Don't give up. And don't give in.

Sigil - A Black Batttle-axe
Motto "Honed And Ready"
After watching the awesome Game of Thrones series I became slightly obsessed with each of the House's and their identity or sigil.
Having found the houses and their representative sigils. I set about creating a vector for each one of them and creating a poster. I hope you like them as much as I do.

Another Design Cuts tutorial! I've been given a lot of brushes to play with, along with the instruction to make a fake movie poster.

I had a lot of fun while playing with all the great brushes that are included in the deal, and I've shared rather extensively the processes I used to reach my end result.
