WORDS OF “ENCOURAGEMENT” for 2019 Chicago Marathon Participants from @DEPRESSIONPRESS MFG. & INK, INC.
--
Every fall, thousands of suspiciously eager Chicago Marathon runners head through the heart of Pilsen past Chicago Art Department. This year, we’re “proud” to display hundreds of signs featuring various words of “encouragement” hand-printed by two of the city’s most reluctant optimists—K. James Henderson & Dud Lawson of Depression Press Mfg. & Ink, Inc.
Join Kent (art) & Dud (copy) for an opening reception Friday, Oct. 11 from 6-10pm and come back the morning of Sunday, Oct.13 for booze, carbs, and a front-row view of the longest, most tedious sporting event in the Midwest.
Words of Encouragement on view Oct 11 to Oct 25

House Westerling
Sigil – Six white Shells on a field of Yellow
Motto - Honour, Not Honours
After watching the awesome Game of Thrones series I became slightly obsessed with each of the House’s and their identity or sigil.
Having found the houses and their representative sigils. I set about creating a vector for each one of them and creating a poster. I hope you like them as much as I do.

This week, for our exploration of the 22 Professional & Artistic Fonts bundle, we are going to create a typographical poster promoting an alas fake chocolate festival. Yes, you have read that correctly: it’s all about chocolate today!
We’ll focus on techniques, tips, and tricks that will help us to design a file that will be ready to screen print. This printing technique has been around for a long time, and involves a manual process.
We’ll cover the limitations of the process, but also its advantages.
If you want to learn how I created this fake vacuum tube ad, you can read the detailed tutorial I wrote for Design Cuts.
The tutorial is a way to showcase a sweet font deal they have going on, and that includes the following:
- Altus
- Castor
- Oil change
- Sparhawk
- Appareo
- Ride my bike
- Trend
- Anodyne
- Veneer
I used Sparhawk, Altus, and Castor for my poster. These fonts come with sweet extras, alternate characters, and open type features. You should consider getting them.
Also, in the texturing part of the tutorial, I make use of some of my paper folds textures, and of my photocopy noise textures. I'm also using a grid from the Arsenal's US grid kit.
Birthday Bash Flyer Template This flyer is great for your birthday party event, very easy to customize. Flyer is elegant, clean, moder, and profesional. 4x6 size photoshop file with organized layer and group.
After creating the Game of Thrones Poster series I decided to try a new approach to some poster designs.
This is a true minimalist approach where I have only taken two features from each of the animals represting the houses.
Although I would like to do more I dont think this will work for many houses.

The cover to the Electric Railway Traction Supplement of the Railway Gazette for 30 June 1939 and that was one of a series of the Supplements that looked at the progress of the various Southen Railway electrification schemes and used Southern poster artwork for the covers. This striking cover uses the Southern Electric poster for the north Kent lines electrification that opened in 1939 serving Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Maidstone. The original poster was by the well-known railway artist Leslie Carr.
The Southern's electrification scheme was a huge and bold programme of works that saw the core of the current 3rd rail system still in use on Britain's railways in southern England converted. This, the scheme to electrify lines in North Kent was, because of the outbreak of war, prove to be the last carried out by the Southern; the later Kent Coast electrification that extended this scheme was to eventually be undertaken by the nationalised British Railways, forming part of the 1955 Modernisation Plan and that delivered in two phases that were completed by 1962.

I always wanted to design a poster for The Prodigy, so i hired my self to make on for the Download festival where I'm going to see them this summer.
A freshly designed sticker.
If anybody knows a cheap (silkscreen) stickerprinter in Germany who makes shapecuts as well let me know.
Poster campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of hydraulic fracturing "fracking" for natural gas taking place in many states across America.
Locked underground beneath various earth formations, such as dense sand, shale and coal beds is a wealth of natural gases and oil. A method, called hydraulic fracturing, is used to recover the natural resources.
To allow these trapped natural resources to be released, the process of fracturing involves pumping a solution comprised of water, chemical additives and sand or ceramic pebbles (proppants) into the formation until it fractures and the gases are released. Fracking is used in approximately 90 percent of the nation's wells.
Chemicals Used in Fracturing
One of the main controversies surrounding the fracturing method is that drilling companies are not required to disclose the chemicals they use. The Energy Policy Act passed by Congress in 2005 excludes hydraulic fracturing fluids (except diesel fuel) for energy production from regulation. Individual states can set their own regulations.
A Texas state representative filed a new bill in March 2011 that would create a website to list all the chemicals used in each well. If passed, residents of the surrounding communities would know what chemicals are being released near their water supplies.
The formula varies depending on the drilling company and the depth of the shale or rock formation. According to data, fracture treatments use anywhere between 50,000 to 350,000 gallons of stimulation fracturing fluids.
Some of the toxic chemicals that are used and released in the process include:
Benzene (known to cause cancer)
Ethylbenzene
Toulene
Xylene
Diesel fuel
To date, diesel fuel is the only substance that drillers have to obtain a permit for. The other distillates used are just as hazardous to humans. This is only a short list of the hazardous chemicals used to extract oil and natural gas. Even the smallest amount can contaminate millions of gallons of water.
Groundwater Contamination
Fracking is used in coalbed methane production (CBM) areas. Many coal beds contain underground drinking water supplies. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ten out of 11 CBMs are located in underground water supplies, which means that in some cases, chemicals from the fracking fluids are injected directly into the underground water supplies.
In addition to the water contamination from hazardous fracking fluids, the water supplies are also at risk of long-term contamination. It has been estimated that 20 to 40 percent of the chemicals are left underground following injection. The trapped chemicals can seep through the rock formations into the underground water supplies and cause long-term contamination.
Contamination can lead to skin irritations, reproductive complications, respiratory disease, cancer, and other serious health risks.
"I've been given a lot of brushes to play with, along with the instruction to make a movie poster. Since I had just read Driver (the short novel -150 pages- behind the movie), I wanted to make a Driver tribute poster. But since we didn't want to run into any legal troubles with the copyright police, we switched our interest to a fake movie poster.
Coincidentally, I've been listening to that great roundtable interview of movie directors (Quentin Tarantino, Ben Affleck, Ang Lee, Tom Hooper, David O. Russell, and Gus Van Sant).
I got the perfect excuse right there to make a Grindhouse-style poster. I came across some serious awesomeness during my research phase (#1, #2, #3, and #4).
Carsploitation IS a thing after all. So I came up with this vaguely chase/road trip related title, and looked at a few stock photos for inspiration (#1, #2, and #3)."
Another Design Cuts tutorial! I've been given a lot of brushes to play with, along with the instruction to make a fake movie poster.
The tutorial is now live!
I had a lot of fun while playing with all the great brushes that are included in the deal, and I've shared rather extensively the processes I used to reach my end result.
For Coronation Year a regal Lion and a Unicorn to set the scene for the GPO's reminder that you could hand in Greetings Telegrams in advance of transmission (unlike by their very nature 'emergency' telegrams). Greetings Telegrams for festive occassions such as weddings and birthdays were hugely popular in the day and the GPO eventually cashed in with the introduction of specially deisgend Greetings Telegram forms and matching envelopes; some now being quite collectable.
The artist and designer here is the then well known F H K Henrion MBE FSIA. Henrion was another of the German born designers who came to the UK during the turbulent 1930s and here he stayed, despite being interned at the start of WW2. He went on to be one of the greatest designers and proponents of corporate identities as well as being an influential teacher. His company was one of the founding partners of Henrion Ludlow Schmidt, the design agency.
Ever thought to yourself "Hey self, what if that old 1999 game LEGO Racers was actually a terrible modern-day anime where all the racers were female and attended a racing high school in-between circuits and their headmaster was Rocket himself?"
No? Well hard luck, it exists now as a poster. A poster I put a ton more effort into than my usual designs. Yes, really. Help.
If you're wondering why the aspect ratio's different for this one, it's 'cos this specific poster was made specifically for a billboard I built for the side of one of my modulars - which, appropriately enough, is a sushi bar. You can still use it in your own MOCs/layouts if you fancy (remember to credit me though if you do please), but you'll need a 6x9 billboard for it to fit properly.
(Oh, and the photoshop cloud brushes are by 'yuumei' on DeviantArt - go check 'em out, they're good brushes bront yuumei.deviantart.com/art/Cloud-Tutorial-Part-1-396507964)

Poster series illustrations about reasons why I love to design =)
Hello everybody! Simon here. In order to properly celebrate Design Cuts’ first birthday, what’s better than an anniversary poster?
The 22 deals that are part of the birthday craziness include thousands of design elements to choose from. We ought to be able to create something fun, impactful, and visually pleasant by hand-picking an harmonious selection out of the bunch.
So, what’s the plan? We’ll use textures, vector elements, and typefaces to craft a British-themed commemorative poster. We have to celebrate the roots of Tom, Darren, Tina, and Steph somehow, right? I mean, the British accent makes everything better anyway: better detectives (Sherlock), better secret agents (007), and now, better design resources.
The tutorial will walk you through the various steps I took to assemble the various resources into a visually coherent ensemble. With that in mind, let’s get to it, shall we?
The Racket is a writing series based in San Francisco where every month a new topic is chosen and a selected group of writers will read short stories they've written on that subject.
Posters are handed out at the event for the participants and attendees.
For this, my main goal was to try and avoid the well-worn visual territories like clocks, longs shadows, or hourglasses. After a good deal of failed sketches, this idea of using the rings of a tree in some way started feeling like the best route.
This was also my first work in a very (VERY) long while where I used Cinema4D to generate the simple lighting and shadows as a way to let this have a little more depth than my usual 2D illustration work.
Each of the hosted writers have been placed within the rings based on their age with the younger writers closer to outer edge.
