When I tell people I study coral reefs, they always imagine I spend my time sunning myself on tropical beaches. The reality is that the weather in the tropics in unpredictable, one moment it's 30 degree sun and the next it's monsoon rains. Sometimes it’s even too hot and we struggle to keep our experiments cool. This photo was one of those days that started out so well and the next thing you know you’re in the middle of a storm with two transects still to collect. I captured this of my research assistant writing down data as we raced to finish, so we could get home for a cup of tea!
Students who have received Santander scholarships celebrate their success with Santander staff at the special Postgraduate Scholars' reception held by the University of Essex at Wivenhoe House hotel.
The University of Salford has just completed a £1.9m Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) project which has helped fund master’s level courses – and has laid the groundwork for more businesses in the North West to provide training for their employees.
To mark the end of the Collaborative Training Account (CTA) project, an award was presented to exceptional student Tom Liptrot, whom the CTA had funded to the tune of £7,000, enabling him to take a master’s course in Operational Research & Applied Statistics
Without the funding Tom would not have been able to take the course; as a result of gaining his qualification he has been able to secure a job using his newly acquired skills.
Once again Aston's Postgraduate graduation ceremony was held at the impressive Birmingham Town Hall, followed by a reception on campus. Over 600 students graduated.

Once again Aston's Postgraduate graduation ceremonies were held at the impressive Birmingham Town Hall, followed by a reception on campus. Over 600 students graduated.
