No dreams or memories to share today. Instead I'm posting another nice example of Lensbaby Edge 80 optic. Using the tilt I've introduced just a little bit of blur on top this image, while keeping the human figure sharp. Now that I've learned to expect a certain possibilities with Edge 80, I'm starting to find regular 'straight lenses' a bit boring. Couple of days ago I had to use my kit lens (SEL1855) for some family pictures and while it felt almost too easy with AF and OSS, I felt something was missing. What I feel Lensbaby lenses bring to the table is an ability to play more with selective focus. This is mainly because of tilt, but manual focusing also adds something. I originally thought that being manual focus lenses these lenses would be hard to use. Well they are in some situations, I have to admit that, but manual focusing also expands your choices because by turning the focusing ring you will see different possibilities for selective focus - especially with the tilt. It's something you don't see when working with auto focus lenses. Not to mention the creative possibilities it introduces.

At this hour, those possibilities are still pretty good, although fewer than earlier in the day. Perhaps he is waiting to greet someone off the 19:07 service from Manchester Piccadilly, as I was? If so, it's fortunate he was there in good time because the train arrived three minutes early.

I was told that I've been to Yosemite before. How old I was at the time is a different story. And considering that I have zero memories of the place, I must have been one tiny kiddo. So realistically, last June was my first visit to this beautiful place, and despite the crowds...it did not disappoint. Magical waterfalls and towering cliffs and soaring pines - what else could you need?
And you know what else is cool? Traveling with other photographers for once. My guides around Yosemite were two friends who had brought me down to California to photograph their wedding (the primary reason for the trip!), and were kind enough to take the time out of their busy wedding week to show me around the park. One is a fellow photographer, meaning he knew all the cool places, and when he spotted this shockingly symmetrical reflection of Yosemite Falls by the Swinging Bridge picnic area, I skipped along after him to see what he'd found. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? And photographer friendships are some of the most rewarding!
This is an amazing location - a bridge over a double waterfall. I thought about walking over this bridge when i was visiting, but then i had a different thought - what if it's better to not know the possibilities rather than see what reality is? This place had me always wondering, and by not going up there this day, I'm still wondering where this path starts and where it ends. It's something i think i like photography for when you haven't visited a place - your mind extends beyond what was and what could be

By far not the best moon shot I've uploaded in my time but fitting for today, the day after The General Election here in the UK. No matter people's views about the outcome, the world keeps on turning as it always does, we move on .
The irony here though is that I spotted this through my kitchen window and had hoped to get the moon as it was dipping behind the trees but the phone in my pocket rang , it was my GP before her daily surgery ringing to give me advice over ( yet another ) drug reaction . One thing I do fear for in the light of the new government is for the future for our NHS which is already torn every which way.
was concentrating so hard on the zipper pictures, that i almost forgot to post a ducky picture. and i think clover won as the name for this tiny green LEGO ducky. so all together i had six possibilities for macromondays this week :)

I thought this was going to be one of those INSANE sunrises, how was I mistaken… Clouds were moving that fast that they cover the horizon, blocking what would have been some awesome colour!
Makes the sensational sunrises more special, as they don't come everyday! I think I'm due??

Vestrahorn has so many possibilities to be photographed. Textures, patterns, reflection, panorama shots, this is the reason we spend two nights in our Iceland workshop at this area, to visit this spot different times, with different light...
Travel and Photography
In this panorama shot was necessary to focus stack because the stone was really close to the camera. And in order to capture all the frozen patterns in the foreground.
Starting a new notebook is as exciting for me as cracking open a new book to read. They both contain unknown possibilities, adventures, and new paths to explore.

Hiking at the Gold Mint trail in Hatchers pass. So many side trails. So many possibilities for new adventures.
Anticipating the possibility of seeing the Falcon 9 liftoff, all I got were these partly cloudy sunset photos! LOL I placed a ND2 lens filter on thinking I'd reduce some of the atmospheric pollution in my long exposure with Falcon 9 liftoff. Instead, no long exposure, just some tinkering around shots.

This pebble easily fits into a 1 inch square. As I looked at the image under magnification it occured to me that it could be mistaken for the surface of an alien planet, perhaps mars.
This won't come as a surprise to those of you who know me lol
today's random fact: i'd love to get "move" and "be moved" tattoo'd somewhere,
in the same symmetric fashion as i have the "here" and "now" ...
(but i won't).
I came across this possibility for a shot and worked it for about 2 hours. At one point while trudging through the snow, one foot fell deeper than expected as something gave way. I was holding my tripod in one hand and had my camera with a long lens around my neck. I didn't fight the need to fall but made sure to fall on my right shoulder while holding my camera by the lens and pushing it off to the left.
After that incident I got up, brushed off the snow and went on to get closer to the fence. After shooting for a while and completely uninspired with the results, I moved back and toward this small jog in the long property fence. This is the spot that now engaged me. There was something to combine in the angles, lines and a distant subject.
Now it was coming together. Adjusting the height of the tripod, rotating the polarizing filter for maximum effect, choosing the right focal length and f-stop. It was a matter of once again finding something of interest and making it all the more so without a sunrise or a sunset for color.
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

La Reserva Nacional China Muerta es una reserva natural de Chile ubicada en la comuna de Lonquimay, Provincia de Malleco, Región de la Araucanía. Dista a 40 km de Melipeuco y a 162 km de Temuco, la capital regional. El principal acceso va desde Melipeuco por camino antiguo a la Laguna_Galletué, distante 25 km de Melipeuco; el camino es de ripio y tierra. Es transitable sólo por vehículos de doble tracción en invierno. La reserva es contigua al Parque Nacional Conguillio, comprende unos 12 825 hectáreas, preservando extensos bosques de Araucarias.
Lamentablemente el año 2015 esta reserva sufrió uno de los incendios más devastadores de los últimos tiempos, en donde fueron consumidas entre un 40% y 50% del bosque nativo el cual se demorara en recuperarse unos 300 años aproximadamente. Según los comuneros Pehuenches que habitan la zona el incendio fue provocado intencionalmente. Culpando a la ambicion de las grandes empresas forestales que operan en la zona por años. Estas apreciadas tierras estan en el ojo del negocio forestal y representan un posibilidad para expandir sus plantaciones de bosques foraneos.
China Muerta es una de las reservas menos conocidas de la región, opacada por sus llamativos parques vecinos. Llegamos a China Muerta buscando el camino a Laguna Galletue, a pesar de las dificultades del camino decidimos continuar, los primeros kms son desoladores con miles de arboles quemados, hasta que llegamos a una bifurcacion que lleva a la entrada de la reserva, pero un chico de Icalma nos habia dicho que era mejor entrar a la reserva por un camino privado que nace de la misma bifurcacion, ya que ese sector de la reserva no se habia quemado. Cruzando un porton a la izquierda a poco andar el paisaje cambio radicalmente, y como bien dijo mi amigo fotografo Jose Alonso Diaz, ibamos buscando los colores del Otoño y aca los encontramos, pero de manera dramatica. En este lugar la naturaleza se empeño en ofrecernos un espectaculo de colores y formas que jamas imaginamos ver.

The National Reserve China Muerta is a natural reserve of Chile located in the commune of Lonquimay, Province of Malleco, Region of the Araucanía. It is 40 km from Melipeuco and 162 km from Temuco, the regional capital. The main access goes from Melipeuco by old road to Laguna_Galletué, distant 25 km from Melipeuco; the road is gravel and dirt. It is passable only by four-wheel drive vehicles in winter. The reserve is adjacent to the Conguillio National Park, comprising about 12,825 hectares, preserving extensive Araucaria forests.
Unfortunately in 2015 this reserve suffered one of the most devastating fires of recent times, where they were consumed between 40% and 50% of the native forest which will be delayed in recovering approximately 300 years. According to the local Pehuenche comunity that inhabit the area the fire was intentionally provoked. Blaming the ambition of the big forestry companies that operate in the area for years. These prized lands are in the eye of the forestry business and represent a possibility to expand their plantations of foreign forests.
China Muerta is one of the least known reserves in the region, overshadowed by its striking neighboring parks. We reached Dead China looking for the road to Laguna Galletue, despite the difficulties of the road we decided to continue, the first kms are devastating with thousands of trees burned, until we come to a fork that leads to the entrance of the reserve, but a boy of Icalma had told us that it was better to enter the reserve by a private road that is born from the same fork, since that sector of the reserve had not burned. Crossing a gate to the left after a short walk the landscape changed radically, and as my friend Jose Alonso Diaz said, we were looking for the colors of Autumn and here we find them, but dramatically. In this place nature strives to offer us a show of colors and shapes that we never imagine seeing.
I like hillsides that beckon upwards, where you can't see the other side or what might be waiting for you. I suppose it's the wanderlust in me, wanting to take me over every hill and explore every inch of the earth from top to bottom and somehow remember it all. The sky was so expansive that day, and possibilities were endless. I'd like to be there today, exploring or sitting in the grass staring up into the sky being blinded by the blue.
