Typical day of exploration... whacked my head going in... fell down the stairs going out... camera battery died. Got back to the car, ready to dive into my bag of the essential road trip food .... ripped the bag open... WHAT THE HECK?!! These aren’t Twizzlers!!! It’s a bag of toe warmers? Where the heck did I leave the Twizzlers... and where the heck were these toe warmers when we needed them?! *sigh*

A Saturday away from my desk... exploring with my favorite Urbexer.... PRICELESS!! ...even if I am pretty sure that my skinned knee is full of toxic dirt... (which I was later informed is probably more likely pigeon crap... not dirt ... not sure I needed that info!)

Back to work today with a bump on my head, a slightly swollen ankle and still some soreness on my leg where I walked into some kind of biting weed that attacked me right through my jeans (and they told us that we needed to stay on the paths because of racoons... and skunks.... or something like that.... never warned us of attacking weeds....) ... and good memories!!

From my files again. This cottage was on the grounds of the Life Saving Station (see yesterday’s post) and was refurbished with wood salvaged from the station. It was used by the Dept. of Transportation’s radio operator and his family.

Note the raised, wood walkway to the outhouse. The area was prone to flooding.

This house on the Hill is very close to my home. I have driven past it a million times but and never noticed its photographic possibilities.

Standing on the ridge, watching the wind roll through the valley, it feels like the world just keeps going — horizon after horizon, cloud after cloud. The turbines turn quietly in the distance, a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much more there is ahead.

He's been squatting the garden for a few months. Even he remains very suspicious, I can see that he calculates the possibility of finally finding a little comfort...

After having taken a photograph there are countless possibilities how to proceed in post processing. Sometimes this can give me quite a headache as with this image. I liked the subject and composition but wasn't quite sure how to really "absorb" the viewer into the forest. I tried a lot of different processing options and ended with a photo I liked but there was still something missing. After uploading it on Flickr I even replaced it three times but each version didn't feel "right" either...

So I forgot about the picture for a week or so until I came about a photography competition by the www.lens-flare.de/blog. I had another look at my photo and this time I tried a completely different approach by converting it into black and white, realizing that the colors had "distracted" me before. Now I was quite happy with the result and submitted it. Well, and guess what -- I even won the competition with my picture, which was quite a shock (albeit a pleasant one) for me.

I guess there are always countless possibilities -- not only with a certain subject but also what to do about it after having taken the photograph. And sometimes it pays off to just wait a few days and think about it before uploading it. So what do you think? Does it look better now? Or just different? I welcome your opinions...

Well; I had no luck while out and about yesterday. There wasn't too much kicking around in the hot afternoon sun. I think we were about half way through the walk when I knew it would be a garden macro sort of day.

I'm actually glad it worked out this way; I lucked out and spotted this guy on one of the stalks out in the garden. It took a couple tries but I finally managed to get the focus and framing just right.

Honestly, I don't think the beetle knew I was there.

morocco was grate but people really really don't like you taking there photos so it was hard to take photos any where if there was the possibility for people to be in them. so unfortunately there was loads of stuff that i would like to shot but could not. that means there are lots of photos of seagulls and camels
