The extensive ruins of Dirleton Castle in East Lothian Scotland are a great venue to tour around. These portraits were taken quickly to catch the rich near golden afternoon sunshine that lit our way into the castle. My mum Irene was ready to storm the defences, but she graciously made herself available for these chattered through pictures. The picturesque turret in the background is part of the excellent walled garden. The castle and grounds are both magnificent. We have visited several times and talked our way around the fantastic features from the palatial Haliburton Range to robust de Vaux Ramparts, from the Dungeon to the Doocot and the Monkey Puzzle Tree to the Bowling Green. If you have a chance then do check the opening times and make a visit.

Dirleton Castle is under the care of Historic Environment Scotland.

Sometimes I'm up and sometimes I'm down

Yes lord, you know sometimes I'm almost to the ground

O yes, Lord, still

You got here before I do

O yes Lord, don't forget to tell all my friends I'm coming too

O yes Lord, still

De jeunes femmes sont souvent désorientées, car ayant perdu beaucoup de leurs points de repère dans leurs relations et leur environnement au quotidien.

Young women who are refugees are most likely to be disoriented, having lost much that is familiar in their everyday surroundings and relationships.

Emily hates having her photo taken (I think it shows a bit too!) I like this light on her face, even though she looks like I'm torturing her lol. 'I just don't enjoy my face!' she exclaimed, god knows why!!

Morley College: 'Out of Office The Artists in the Studio’- Michelle Avison, Artist and Programme Manager for Printmaking.

The practice of Documentary Photography means one generally becomes very accustomed to

working in spaces and locations that are not ones ‘own’. For this show ‘Out Of Office’, It was a

pleasure to go to my fellow colleagues studios, making portraits, recording their spaces and working

practices.

The sessions were collaborative and fun and I was always pleasantly surprised by the spaces I

encountered. For this series I chose to shoot on film, using available light and one roll of film per

person. I used a Bronica medium format camera. The considered and steady process of using this

camera (as opposed to the instant gratification of a digital slr) afforded me the opportunity to slow

down and consider the shots I was making.

All images shot on Kodak Portra 400 120 film.
