LRT (Light Rail Transit) fits easily into the streetscape of downtown Portland, Oregon.

In some locations, streetcars can share the right of way with motor vehicles or cyclists, the busier systems will have exclusive rights of way.

Clean, quiet and efficient, LRT is the right solution for those of us planning new systems of transit to evolve more sustainable transportation systems and more vibrant, livable communities.

To find more on Victoria's LRT plans, visit BC Transit at www.bctransit.com or sort through the discussion at my blog at johnluton.blogspot.com

A key canal attraction in the Tameside area is the fabulous Portland Basin & Industrial History Museum, located where three canals, no less, meet - the Ashton, The Peak Forest and the Huddersfield Canal. The museum is well worth a visit, and explore the social history of the people of the area and the industries they worked in, not least on the canals.

The narrow boats in the image are all timber hulled and are in various states of repair, the chimney belonged to Junction Mills, the buildings are now demolished, but the 210 feet (64 m) octagonal chimney, built in 1867, and typical of that period has been preserved in situ.

The most amazing find on Chesil Beech was a family of 4 hare ... it's really hard to sneak up on hare when you're walking on shingle! So only a hint of hare in the shot below :)
