Portland Bill Lighthouse, experiment with long exposures, not quite what I wanted, but it was too cold to stay there much longer.
Located at the entrance to Portland Inner Harbor in Bug Light Park. The breakwater was built in 1836-38 and extended in 1873. A wooden octagonal lighthouse was built on the breakwater end in 1854 and provided with a 6th order Fresnel lens that had a fixed red light. This was replaced with the present cast iron tower in 1873, which was modeled after an ancient Greek Temple, including Corinthian columns around the tower. The light was electrified in 1934 and discontinued in 1942, when it was hemmed in by large manufacturing buildings built during WWII, and no longer useful. A private non-profit group has restored and maintained the lighthouse and had it relit as a private aid to navigation in 2002
I love those moments when you simply try to get your camera out fast enough. Shot through the roof of my car at a red light.
As participants in the Portland marathon finish, they've given these metallic blankets to keep their body temperature high. As participants leave the finish line, most of them pitch these one-time blankets to the trash. There was a barricade behind me that must have been thirty feet wide and four feet high which was just covered in these things. Some of the Occupy protestors were picking them up to resuse them.

A return daytrip into Portland, Maine, aboard the earliest Casco Bay Lines boat from Chebeague Island, let me enjoy the waterfront scenery again in a whole different light. I spent an hour or so strolling the different wharves with my camera, then more hours walking around Portland's "Old Port" and exploring the different shops (and taking more pictures, of course, to be added in the next few days). I feel so "alive" here, and never tire of the draw of the ocean, whether on a quiet island or the busy waterfronts of the harbor.

Peacock Lane is a short three block stretch in SE Portland that started a lighting tradition in 1929. Multiple generations of families have come to walk or drive by the lights year after year to see the Christmas Spirit. Not the biggest nor brightest display, but certainly known locally. Peacock Lane was placed on the National Historic Registry this year.
