do you know whats behind my back where I took this pic ?

Changes in laws requiring smoke-free workplaces and public spaces has created a situation where smokers are pretty limited where they are allowed to smoke, especially in public. Although the actual percentage of smokers has decreased, it seems the opposite because they are now all outside and observable. It has created quite a problem with cigarette butts all over the sidewalks. People who would never consider throwing a empty cigarette package or candy wrapper on the ground do so with cigarette butts without a thought. The whole thing makes for interesting photography at times.

Wonderful summer weather in Portland, Oregon.

In a study conducted in 2004 by the Journal of Japanese Gardening, it was ranked a very close second place out of 300 public Japanese gardens outside of Japan for highest quality.

I had a day off work today, so we looked at the weather app and Weymouth and Portland came out as sunniest!

Portland Bill is a narrow promontory at the southern end of the Isle of Portland, and the southernmost point of Dorset, England. One of Portland's most popular destinations is Portland Bill Lighthouse. Portland's coast has been notorious for the number of shipwrecked vessels over the centuries. The dangerous coastline features shallow reefs and the Shambles sandbank, made more hazardous due to the strong Portland tidal race.

Portland Bill Lighthouse is a functioning lighthouse on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. The lighthouse is located at the very south of the island, warning coastal traffic off of Portland Bill. The lighthouse and its boundary walls are Grade II Listed and have been since May 1993.

As Portland's largest and most recent lighthouse, the Trinity House operated Portland Bill Lighthouse is distinctively white and red striped, standing at a height of 41 metres (135 ft). The tower is approximately 114 feet, and the lantern section at 21 feet. The foundations are 7 feet deep and 6 feet thick. The lighthouse took two years and three months to build, and was completed by 1906 and first shone out on 11 January 1906.

Both Portland Bill and Chesil Beach are the locations of many wrecks of vessels that failed to reach Weymouth or Portland Roads. Portland Bill Lighthouse guides vessels heading for Portland and Weymouth through these hazardous waters as well as acting as a waymark for ships navigating the English Channel.

Portland, Oregon (2013).

This model was inspired by a 100(+) year old firehouse in the Belmont section of Portland, Oregon. I am really pleased with the level of detail I was able to attain in this small scale. The color combination really works well for me, too. And, I’d be remiss not pointing out the special colored leaves on the trees are supplied by Steve Barile and his company AltBricks. Enjoy!

A long exposure taken about 6pm along the coast at Portland Bill. I used a £10 filter set which is horribly scratched and marked which shows in the image to extend this image to around one second catching the water falling off the rocks. The cheap filters cause orange colours to appear when stacked so I have done my best to transform the sky without losing too much colour.
