These shop owners pull their cart from door to door and advertise with bare yet loud screams.

Make an easy to build portable softbox
- cut a backing frame from a 1/2 gallon plastic milk jug
- shape the plastic to fit the rear of your flash, like a bounce card, narrow at the bottom and more flared out at the top
- line the front of the plastic with a reflective material. I used the shiny mylar material from a package of Nabisco oatmeal cookies. I attached the mylar using double-sided tape.
- tape down the edges of the mylar to the plastic using gaffers tape
- Attach the reflector to flash using rubber bands
- make a "flip down" diffuser using simple tissue paper or other diffusing material
The flash and portable softbox can be used on-camera or off-camera, One Light Strobist style.

I don't actively collect typewriters, but I get them when they are a good deal. They are fun to work on and type on.

Okay, before anyone freaks out, please don’t judge me too hard.
This dolly abomination absolutely saved my grade and my sanity.
Back in 200? (2007-2008?) I was pursuing a bachaelors degree in art at a local university. I was in an upper division Art History class with a professor notorious for high expectations and harsh grading. Like any other “400 level” class there was a very large research paper project that was going to be a major part of our grade in the class. Something like a thirty page research paper.
Now at the time my personal life was rocky, I was close to graduating but gradually taking fewer and fewer classes, and I was working more full-time hours at my retail job. (Burnout. In hindsight I was burning out.)
I didn’t realize I was burning out but I knew, I just KNEW that I didn’t have thirty pages of words inside of me to put on a page. Even though I really enjoyed the class and love the topic: History of Surrealism, I knew I didn’t have thirty pages in me so I had to come up with a creative solution. I needed a muse.
In lieu of writing a thirty page paper, I created this Portable Muse.
I turned in this Muse (and a hand bound book of surrealist art games we had learned about in the class. I had recreated the games and wrote little explanations of them.) I got a really good grade and passed the class.
(I did end up dropping out of school for real and never finished my degree. Oops.)
The muse herself is a Britney Spears head on a Ocean Toys Pamela Love torso mounted on an imitation squirrel paintbrush. She comes in her own labeled tin (a repurposed Surf Benders tin.)
(I have the original head for this torso and had been looking for poor Pamela’s body for a while… then I remembered what I had done to her and found this old Portable Muse in my studio.)

Audeze LCD-2: Fantastic Orthodynamic headphones. Addictive sound that is unlike most headphones you've ever heard.
This Macintosh Portable was purchased from Aldus as part of an obsolete equipment sale back in 1994. It is a non-backlit model that boots into System 6. The lead acid battery has long since passed it’s prime and is a good candidate for a refurbish.
Here I am making music on da lawn. A laptop installed with Ableton Live, a Midi Keyboard and a good set of headphones and it's amazing what you can do! I tend to work on music with this type of set up and then do more edits later with studio speakers.
An early example Ca.1900, mainly used by contractors travelling from farm to farm hauled by a team of horses. Used for threshing, sawing etc. Not sure of the manufacturer of this example, maybe by Garretts of Leiston, being captured in a Suffolk farmyard.

Displayed here is Portable station (James Rojas) an example of the tool used in the process of DBUP - design based urban planning - in which the members of the community partipate actively. It's meant to de-mistify the planning process and translate conceptual planning ideas like housing, public transportation open space into physical forms and thru this foster and facilitate public participation.

Boombox is a common word for a portable cassette or CD player with two or more loudspeaker. Other terms known are ghetto blaster, jambox, boomblaster, Brixton briefcase or radio-cassette. It is a device capable of receiving radio stations and playing recorded music (usually cassettes or CDs), usually at relatively high volume. Many models are also capable of recording (onto cassette) from radio and (sometimes) other sources. Designed for portability, most boomboxes can be powered by batteries, as well as by line current.

Haalua & Parathas are popular breakfast item among city dwellers in Dhaka. Some who can afford eat these in fancy hotels, & those who can't afford luxuries can eat from such trolley based sellers.
Tastes more or less same, to be honest...
This photo was taken in 1987. The computer is a portable Compaq. Instead of portable, I called it Transluggable. It weighed about 28 pounds. I would lug it from C&K to my home at night.

Beverages on wheels, just not sure how they got a fire going in the back seat without ruining the upholstery. This was a most interesting and humorous find at the threshers' reunion. Great joke! Wish the car owner would have been handy to discuss the vehicle with as I suspect it was not and inline engine under the hood and it has certainly been lowered. the company logo is a riot.
