This poor Eastern Phoebe looks a little raggedy and I would have passed it up except it had an insect in its beak and the more I looked at it, the more I believe it to be a horsefly with eyes of green and black stripes. What I found interesting is that the Phoebe didn't just chuck it back but had it in its bill for at least a minute. I thought that was interesting but have no idea why the bird would do that. Was it just enjoying the capture? But, in the end, thank you to the Phoebe because I hate the bite of horseflies. There's one less thanks to you!
Taken 13 June 2016 at Huntley Meadows Park, Virginia.
D had his 1 year shots almost 3 weeks ago now. He had the MMR and chicken pox shot.
So, of course, he is one of the few that actually developed the measels and chicken pox from the shots. :(
He is on the mend and looking much better this week! :)
I dug this out from a few weeks ago when we were at the park. He isn't feeling like getting his picture taken this week.
Poor little fella....

This female killdeer has a nest with four eggs up on the hill behind the house. She puts on this act every time I walk up there. Those red dirt castings on the left are from a big Harverster ant bed. For fifteen summers I''ve walked up there and surveyed this ant bed in hopes of finding a Horned Lizard. No luck. Two connected species in peril- the ants and the horny toads.
Well, I'm quite obviously still no portrait-photographer and this lens isn't close to what anyone would consider sharp... and yet, I really like the look it creates. There could be more interesting subjects for sure… perhaps one day, who knows.
Oh, by the way: that lens is likely somewhere between 80 and 100 years old - it‘s really hard to say for sure, but I‘m trying to find out.
Shot with a Projection Optics "Super-Lite 3 3/4 inch" (projection) lens on a Canon EOS R5.
Baxter was trying so hard to get under the fence to make friends with them, and they seemed so friendly. There were several more of them, and they are staying on the Gypsy Field here in Stow.
Woody the cat, not very impressed he was left alone overnight with a neighbour looking in on him while I was gallivanting on the Isle of Wight...

Spring thaw begins in Gilford, NH. Pictured is Poor Farm Brook.
No one around to talk to, not even the psychiatrist.
Just some fun with the new "Jagged Line" torso, as I've been referring to it.

Incredible texture on these tiny little button like flowers. - Poor little flowers in the snow. I am surprised they are not frozen and droopy.
Poor is the man who cannot share his wealth with family or friends. Poor is the man who has no love, joy and laughter in his house.
Many thanks to @Xymion for his support and advice!
Built for Brickscaliburs coop category "Rich and Poor", in which i had to partner up with a fellow builder to make two MOCs in total.
The counterpart build is here:
A couple of walkers nearing the Cheviot Hill summit in very poor visibility. It was misty, drizzly and windy.. I'm not keen on constructed paths up hills but up here the flagstones are a blessing in the peat (and mist).
One of the many victims from MadPea's UNIA.
This poor fellow met his fate in one of the many stunning dream scenes you will traverse through while playing the game.
This scene is called The Drowning, and was made in collaboration with Bryn Oh.
If you haven't explored UNIA yet you're missing out.
Poor teddy's been a bit down on his luck lately.
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment, and fave my photos
Most of us have had, at some time in our lives, that feeling of being lonely and isolated - despite being surrounded by family & friends.
This image is dedicated to those 'thorny' moments . . .
For the past couple of years, it's just been one thing after another for Poppy (in fact, usually several things at once, most of which we haven't yet figured out!). She had yet another trip to the vet this morning, needing treatment for a UTI :(
I took this very close-up shot of her shaking herself dry (hence her left ear being above her head) after a nice swim at Kilmaurs a couple of weekends ago.
I'll catch up with you all soon...
They say the weather is very changeable in Scotland , which I've always found to be true, today being no exception, the day started off in a full on blizzard in Glencoe and I didn't even get the camera out at sunrise as you couldn't see a thing, driving was hazardous to say the least as well as just narrowly missed an oncoming lorry on the A82 which had swerved onto my side of the road to avoid a large ice deposit off a previous lorry right into my path, luckily it missed me.
Headed out again after breakfast through it once again and decided to head South towards Taynuilt and Oban, once out of the snow it just didn't stop raining, all day apart from a few moments at Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe where I managed a few shots. After spending the afternoon in Oban I decided to scout out the best vantage point for Castle Stalker for a better day as the advertised viewpoint is really poor in my view, once I found my spot the rain was easing off but the weather was still pretty poor with low cloud, and hardly any light apart from a promising tiny patch
over towards Mull, with nothing spoiling I decided to just wait here on the offchance of a break.
about 40 minutes it really picked up and I was rewarded with what turned out to be a phenomenal sunset, this image was just the start of it before the sun had fully dropped under the large bank of cloud at the top of the frame, the light was just sublime, there is no way you could have envisaged this sunset at the start of the day or even an hour before, just goes to show you really cannot predict the changes in the weather up here off sight alone, I'll post a few more of these images in the coming weeks as they are quite different, the afterglow after sundow was a stunner as well with some great pinks and purples kicking off over the loch. Spent about 2.5 hours here and loved every minute of it, only realised how cold I was once I'd got back to the car!
