I hate it that so many people let their dogs run unleashed wherever you go in Germany. We'd been watching this little squirrel fellow get more and more trusting with people over the months - until a dog got hold of it.

And I don't even want to imagine what happens in the forests when deer mothers leave their babies hidden in high grass and unleashed dogs stumble upon them.

Thanks for looking. It has been vacant since 1992. For the interesting history: clevelandhistorical.org/items/show/708

Probably too many uploads tonight, but I can't leave Pip out !! Poor Pip isn't allowed to run around with the others, she's broken the cruciate tendon in her knee and has to rest for TWO MONTHS !!!!! This is a very active and playful dog, and the next two months are going to be difficult for her and us! She's waiting patiently......

Please view large, or you might not notice her sweet little nose in the grass ;-)

Can you see him there, in the middle? Its a dog... :¬)

This is a very poor community (or Favela, in Portuguese) called Santa Marta, on the mount Dona Marta. For many years it was devastated by the violence caused by the organized crime, specially because of the drug traffic. I could never imagine myself entering there, but, since November 2008, its permanently occupied by the police and, since this date, the inhabitants are free of the violence. Them, I could walk all the place without problem (well, almost...), but, in general, was everything very well, even I'm being with a bit of fear...

In LARGE you will certainly find him.

The 'view' from Glider Fawr .. You can just make out a bit of land in the distance, under the dark clouds.

How sudden the stroke in a moment he fell

Not the slightest of notice was given

He had no time to bid us farewell

When he was called by his Saviour to Heaven

A sad story. This unlucky young chap has been given two forenames that most often occur as family names as far as I can determine. Sometimes, old family names from the mother's side are preserved in this way.

Mingaye is of French Breton origins. It derives from the pre 7th century words 'men' meaning stone, and 'ki', a dog, and was originally a popular personal name. It is a surname found almost entirely in the county of Norfolk, and even more specifically, the city of Norwich. There are some instances of its travelling to the USA.

Syder is either locational - there is a village Syde in Gloucestershire - or topographical - the ancient word 'sid' meaning a slope.

I got most of this from surnamedb.com. There are similar or slightly differing versions on other sites.

He would have had a hard time at school with those names in present times.

Thanks for another look.

Tomas is always worried about something. He has terrible anxiety.

I adopted Butters to be his happy big sister. I think she'll be a big help to poor Tomas who worries far too much for a little bear.

Today he's worried becasue he hears thunder in the distance, and it usually doesn't thunder this time of year, here.

He also thinks Butters needs a scarf or she might catch a cold. I told him I'd get right on it.

I wasn't going to post anything tonight but just seen in the paper the Badger cull is to start again and I just want to sit down and cry with sadness and frustration.

I am not a political animal but I did write to my MP about this and he was very polite but useless why against ALL advice are they still persisting with this I am gobsmacked at how stupid they are.

Rant over I will put the soapbox away.

This is a very old pic of a young Badger that was playing with the keeper like a puppy.
