Essentials all three! I was slow to recognize the significance of this group out at McIntosh Heritage Center. Now, these would surely have been heavily used by a dairying operation. These may rise to the highest importance implements on a farm. Barnyard cleanup. These are designed for simple hand use to assisted horse or tractor use for 'mucking." No wonder why manure spreaders were prevalent around the farm. Animal husbandry aside, Far too little attention is paid to soil husbandry. That is really the basis.

I was at McIntosh Ag Museum again for my windmill agriculture shot and saw this but the title for this image only came after I opened the file and figured what it was. This machinery is for the ages, the Iron or Dark ages! I should be able to spot some rust on it. I really need to get really close in on this and do a texture detail of the rust. I have a lot of close up gear I seldom use. It had to be iron heavy in order to be able to "bite" into the soil. It looked like a single row plow. Single row implements took some serious time to work a field, one row at a time. Manual labor for sure.

Highway #66 was already overloaded with spring travelers to the hills, hoping for heat relief in the Rockies. Some of us are slower to take the hint. Only the cow trail of snow remains up on Mount Meeker.

A burrowing owl watches me curiously at Brian Piccolo Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Burrowing owls live in holes in the ground. Although they are capable of digging, they prefer to scavenge the unused hole made by other animals. They typically line the hole and surrounding area with mammal dung. Initially, this was thought to cover the scent of their offspring and deter predators, however, more recent studies would suggest that it helps attract insects that they will make a meal of. It may also help to control temperature in the burrows as bacteria in feces generally create heat. Whatever the reason, don't hire a burrowing owl as an interior decorator! #ILoveNature #IloveWildlife #WildlifePhotography in #Florida #Nature in #America #USA #BurrowingOwls #FtLauderdale #Canon #Bringit #WildlifeConservation #DrDADBooks #Photography #Picoftheday #Photooftheday

Yet again...the poop emoji carving is proving useful. Orange haired poop emoji soft block carving collaged on to dollar store floor board scrapbook paper.

A large group of male Chalkhill Blues tolerate each other's presence in order to get their minerals. After a quick, careful, count I think there are twenty one butterflies in there. Never see a female Chalkhill Blue doing this :)

Good morning everyone. Just two quick pics of a Viceroy (Limenitis archippus) taken on top of the levee at Lacey Pond.

For a while this butterfly had me totally puzzled as to what it was up to since it keep returning to the same place in the grass over and over again. At first I thought it was "puddling", but the ground was too dry so I knew there had to be something else that kept drawing it back to the same spot. After I took a couple of pics of it I poked around in the grass where it was perching and low and behold the big attraction was some kind of animal scat. It grossed me out.

The Viceroy is a medium size butterfly with a wing span of 2 1/2 - 3 3/8 inches (6.3 - 8.6 cm). Its wings feature an orange and black pattern, and over most of its range it is a Müllerian mimic with the Monarch butterfly. The Monarch is slightly bigger and doesn't have the post-median black line (as seen above and in the pic in the comment section) that runs across the veins on the hindwing.

Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you're having a truly nice week.
