Ao longo de vinte anos Fernando Lindote já acusou passagem pela pintura, escultura,performance, fotografia,vídeo, instalação,variedade que se estende ainda por experiências em escala pública, trabalhos de inserção urbana, como também por um elenco considerável de trabalhos híbridos, obras que se valem da fusão de dois ou mais suportes. A pesquisa tão persistente de canais de expressão é por si só um aspecto que garante ao artista uma posição muito particular entre seus colegas de geração e mesmo entre os mais jovens. Embora desde os anos oitenta tenha ficado mais difícil encontrar um artista que se defina pela militância em um suporte específico, fenômeno que de resto se justifica,como queria Marcel Duchamp, na afirmação da arte como uma atividade que se define mais pelo aspecto intelectual do que por sua esfera artesanal, o fato é que Fernando Lindote vai além do que se espera. Acostumado com sua prolífica diversidade, seu público,ainda- injustamente-reduzido, fica à espera dos previsivelmente novos rumos que ela imporá às suas pesquisas, o que é o mesmo que dizer que esse público está a espera de algo que sequer imagina o que seja. Desde a célebre afirmação de Maiakovsky, de que não existe conteúdo revolucionário sem forma revolucionária, se espraiou da literatura às artes visuais, o que se deu em proporções generalizadas a partir dos anos cinquenta, ficou estabelecida a necessidade de prospecção de novos suportes expressivos sem o quê se estaria forçosamente derrapando em noções já cristalizadas.. O curioso é que para alguns artistas a pesquisa do suporte passou a ser, a um só tempo, o meio e o fim da questão. Isto é, não se tratava apenas de descobrir as novas questões abertas pelos novos meios, mas de problematizar a fundo a função desses meios. Experimentando a canônica pintura até a performance documentada por vídeos, Fernando Lindote cai exatamente no segundo caso.Sua vasta e polifórmica produção parece indagar obsessiva e sistematicamente sobre a natureza de cada suporte expressivo, sua condição corporal. Não é por outro motivo,assim me parece, que seu trabalho coloca o próprio corpo como um problema recorrente a ser investigado sobre os mais variados aspectos. Fonte e instrumento primeiro de toda expressão, o corpo deve ser analisado, por exemplo,à luz dos gestos que ele produz, isto é, sua capacidade de modificação do mundo. O desejo de formalização que é intrínseco ao homem, seu impulso em negar a natureza, termina por alterá-la em níveis variados. (Agnaldo Farias)

The low contrast bed: Calvin Klein dark blue black coverlet over Calvin Klein dark gray coverlet over black cotton sateen sheets from Ross. The alpaca throw blanket was purchased on eBay for $35.
The objective was to create a low contrast/soothing sleep space. No jangling contrasts or colors. My big fear conceptually was that I would end up with 70's glossy modern, Tom Ford style bachelor pad glam. Because that style had become hip, it had also become easy to find. I worried that I might end up with swank to spare out of search fatigue or sheer laziness. To avoid this, I restricted my choices to satin and matte finishes, and avoided polished metal or retro embellishments of any kind. Catherine Memmi, Henri Becq, Armani Casa, CasaMilano, and Interieurs NYC were my inspirations and references.
The "built in" storage is a set of Ikea kitchen cabinets with brown/black doors. The kitchen systems at Ikea are head and shoulders above the "closet and wardrobe" storage systems at Ikea. If you need bedroom storage, skip the Pax units and pay slightly more for the Akurum kitchen cabinets. Well worth it.

In my quest for monochromatic nirvana, I made a new set of curtains for the storage area in the bedroom. These are much closer to the original idea I had when I started the project, but chickened out the first time around because I was afraid the room would be too dark. I am much happier with these. They are made from wool crepe suiting from Denverfabrics.com. $8 a yard. 15 yards total.

Shine a flashlight below your face pointing upward. The name literally means the bladder of the fish in Latin. In the Christian tradition, it is a reference to Christ, as in ichthys. The curtains hide storage and the door to my closet. The closet has become my "long term storage" solution, allowing me to vacate my Public Storage space, saving me about $100 a month. The entire project including cabinets and installation will pay for itself in less than a year.

Questa è la storia dell’Area Archeologica Centrale in età moderna, dall’Ottocento risorgimentale ai nostri giorni: dall’Unità d’Italia, con la proclamazione di Roma Capitale, agli interventi urbanistici del Novecento, come la Passeggiata Archeologica inaugurata dal sindaco Ernesto Nathan in età giolittiana e la Via dell’Impero, sorta dalle macerie degli sventramenti del rinascimentale quartiere Alessandrino ad opera del regime fascista a cavallo tra le due guerre; dalla stagione delle giunte rosse di Argan e Petroselli, animata dall’alto e ardente dibattito sul “Progetto Fori”, da vaste campagne di scavo archeologico, smantellamenti stradali e importanti pedonalizzazioni, sino agli “sventramenti” del Nuovo Millennio per il cantiere decennale della Metro C e all’immobilismo desolante di questi ultimi anni di incuria, imbarbarimento, oblio.
I ruderi romani dell’antichità diventano quinta scenografica delle rovine della contemporaneità, sfondo delle miserie dell’oggi; testimoni muti di una nuova invasione barbarica, assediati come sono dal brulichio vorace e formicolante di un turismo di massa consumista e di un commercio pervasivo e tumorale di bassa lega; cornice umiliata e logora di un processo forse irrimediabile di gentrificazione e decadenza.
Urge dunque, almeno, una ri-costruzione cinegrafica di quella battaglia politica, culturale e civile, nata nel secondo dopoguerra ed esplosa sul finire degli anni ’70, per la nascita, nel cuore di Roma, del parco monumentale e ambientale unitario dei Fori Romani e dell’Appia Antica; progetto che affonda le sue radici già nei primi piani regolatori di età napoleonica e nel piano di sistemazione della zona compresa tra Celio, Palatino, Circo Massimo e Terme di Caracalla voluta dalla Commissione Reale del 1887, composta, tra gli altri, da Guido Baccelli, Ruggero Bonghi e Rodolfo Lanciani.
Sgorga così un flusso intermediale di eventi proteiformi, audiovisivi, figurativi e topografici, diretto dalla viva voce di Antonio Cederna (il più strenuo e indefesso sostenitore dello smantellamento del tracciato di via dei Fori Imperiali) e attraversato dai riverberi e dagli echi fantasmatici degli altri protagonisti di questa vera e propria epopea del Moderno e del Pensiero Forte come Italo Insolera, Leonardo Benevolo, Renato Nicolini, Luigi Petroselli e Carlo Ripa di Meana. Grazie ad essi rivive sullo schermo un’epoca unica e irripetibile di grande idealità e tensione progettuale, nella quale si sognava di riparare agli errori compiuti nel Ventennio a colpi di piccone, tra demolizioni a tappeto e autostrade urbane, riportando in luce l’antico contesto archeologico finalmente riunificato, con un programma urbanistico insuperato per ambizione e lungimiranza, sul quale è oramai calato il silenzio.
Una polifonia di voci estinte, riportate in vita grazie alla cinematografia, che cantano sogni di ieri, perduti e dimenticati: voci ora sommerse da un’ignoranza immemore, ora soffocate da indifferenza istituzionale e negligenza amministrativa, ora strozzate dalla assordante marcia trionfale dell’incedere delle trivelle che orchestrano l’incubo di un cantiere eterno e devastante, unica opera “monumentale” legittimata a turbare l’odierno clima di inerte torpore, mancanza di volontà politica e totale assenza di visione ideale.
Un’audiovideografia che si fa essa stessa tecnica di scavo, metodologia e dispositivo di riesumazione, archeologia visuale per il disseppellimento di reperti mediali del passato che tornano alla luce e possono reimporsi allo sguardo. Un videomosaico intarsiato di poliformi immagini in movimento che si incastonano come perle pescate dal tempo, che riaffiorano, si compenetrano e si rifrangono tra di esse come segni, tracce, frammenti, sedimentazioni, conflitti formali e dinamici, che si disvelano, scorrono e si intrecciano nella trama di un piccolo arazzo cinegenico ordito dalla tessitura del montaggio, filo su filo. Anzi: pietra su pietra, costruendosi come un’architettura auto-narrantesi in divenire, processuale e stratigrafica.
Perché le pietre sono il tempo.

Finding simple, low, modern bedside tables was a real problem. DWR wanted $650 each for the Zola bedside table, which was doable but seemed, frankly, way overpriced. I knew I needed drawers, but the selection was really slim in the sub $500 category. Finally, I discovered the West Elm Floating Media Drawer. It as meant as a component drawer add on for their media cabinets, but I figured why not stack one on another and call it a nightstand. They are currently only $89 each. Big savings over DWR.

Curtain wall provides approximately 18" X 10 feet of additional storage area in the bedroom. I made the curtains myself using wool crepe suiting and iron on fabric bonding. Having curtains made to order would have added an additional $1400 to the budget. In addition to the curtained area, I had Ikea Akurum kitchen cabinets added to hold books, magazines, dvds, cds, and office supplies. The carpet is Flor in Toy Poodle MooMoo Black colorway (which is actually a dark muted brown...)
Next up in the bedroom project: new bed, nightstands, and art for the walls. Then paint, and I am done.
