This is Officer Luke watching over the Festival of the Arts in Grand Rapids from a higher view point. I went up and asked if I could take a photo of him, and he obliged. I thought the buildings in the background were a perfect background. Nice guy!
Thanks for views, comments and favs :)

STUDENTS DayX3 NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION
Protest and march against University tuition fee increases, 09th Dec. 2010
Over 20,000 students from around the country converged on Central London today to march for a third time to protest against the coalition government's plans to massively increase University tuition fees, which will ultimately mean that far fewer students from poorer backgrounds will be able to even consider a University education because of the massive debts incurred which will follow them for the rest of their working lives.
I joined the days proceedings in the afternoon as they were assembling in Trafalgar Square. To throw the police off-guard they suddenly took off, en mass, through Admiralty Arch in a bid to get to Parliament Square, which had been forbidden. That evening the House of Commons was voting on the Education Funding Bill, and the students were determined to make sure that Parliament heard their protests.
The day started in a good mood, but by the time they reached Parliament pockets of disorder had started breaking out - Flares were lit and thrown, crush barriers and construction site fencing ripped up to be used as weapons against the massed ranks of riot police and later on the mounted police. I had to leave by around 3pm, and by the time I got home and turned on the BBC news all hell had broken loose outside Parliament. Protesters were pelting the police with lumps of masonry, metal poles and scaffolding. They lit large fires, broke down the doors to The Treasury and the new Ministry of Justice buildings, smashing many windows, daubing graffiti everywhere and generally smashing up the joint. Many people were arrested and many people hurt, some badly.
As the police gradually started releasing the by-now contained protesters in small numbers, several small groups headed up to Oxford Street, where they smashed the windows of the flagship TopShop store (owned by Sir Phillip Green who is being attacked for shovelling billions of pounds of what should be UK taxable income into tax haven accounts owned by his wife as part of a legal tax dodge), and in Regent Street they engulfed the Bentley containing Prince Charles and his horse-faced wife Camilla who were in the process of swanning orf the the Royal Variety Performance! The protesters started kicking the vehicle. They broke the windows and threw a tin of white paint over the car. One was not amused!
Needless to say the Bill was passed in Parliament tonight, and the students have vowed to continue their campaign of demonstration and civil disobedience...

The funeral for our fallen police officer Joe Burson is today at the big Baptist church. He was drug farther than a football field to his death late Wednesday night, and I evidently heard it happen. A loud explosive BOOM - then my husband and I listened to more sirens than we'd ever heard in our lives. It was all happening walking distance from our house - but we didn't know what had happened until the next morning - when the main road to our subdivision was closed as news helicopters circled overhead.
Why the Gray petaltail? It's the only one I've photo'd this year at a park just a ways down this same road - if you had been standing at that park Wednesday night you likely would have seen & heard it all.
Life is short. Joe Burson was only 25 years old and has gone on to be with the Lord. But he left behind a young widow. Pray for her and all of our fallen police.
It feels like every police officer in the country is in Carbis Bay today. The only service I didn't see is Northern Ireland. Also, the water's nice!

Street and social documentary photography from Glasgow, Scotland.
Captured in July 2018 where a group of far right fascists were holding a demonstration and a much larger group opposing them had gathered as a counter-protest.
I am absolutely appalled at the scenes that I have seen across media and social media channels of the far right riots and racist hate in cities around England.
Yes they are far right racist thugs. People of colour have been targeted specifically. Pulled from their cars, hounded and beaten on the streets by a mob, roadblocked and prevented from driving on their way. Two hotels housing asylum seekers were set alight. Arson with intent to endanger life. I have seen swastika tattoos, Nazi salutes and heard racist chants. They even burned a library. Nazis like burning books. Stones were thrown at Filipino nurses on their way to cover emergency shifts.
I have seen this described as 'anti-immigration protest' but these people are only concerned about immigration from non-white countries. That's racism. Call it what it is.
It's sickening. This is regression of society and social media has played a huge role in this. The algorithms that value engagement lend themselves to divisive issues being promoted. The algorithms lend themselves to creating echo chambers for extremism. Some social media channels have almost no moderation anymore either and are actively pushing far right ideology in the name of 'freedom of speech'.
I am ashamed to be English. I am ashamed to be British. I am ashamed for the whole nation.
This is a small but vocal and violent group. If we, everyone else, do not stand up against them then we become complicit. If we do not rise up and show love, compassion and care to our communities, our whole inclusive communities, then we are complicit.
The parallels to 1930s Germany are terrifying. It started with the 'othering' of minorities, the scapegoating of racial groups and our politicians and mainstream media have been complicit in platforming and normalising far right fascist views. We are witnessing pogroms on our streets.
Immigration and multi-culturalism enriches us.
Our cultures and identities do not get lost, they get celebrated and shared.
We are one single species, among millions of others, trying to survive on a tiny oasis in the vastness of space.
My politics are irrelevant. I simply care about people. I have empathy. I have compassion. I want humanity so survive and I want it to do so peacefully without hate.
Share love. Share compassion. Share peace.
Care and take care.

Previously unpublished shot captured during the European Championship 2018 Men's Road Race in Glasgow, Scotland.
Not quite as glamorous as "CHiPs" and probably not called Scotland Highway Patrol either but, and I am showing my age here, it is what came to mind as I took this. Theme tune and all! It's quite an excellent theme tune too. I wonder which one is Eric Estrada?
Hoping that you are all having an excellent weekend of photography. Take care.
