Previously unpublished shot from June 2016. Taken on the edge of George Square where a small group of far right extremists had gathered to confront a rally in favour of inclusion and tolerance of immigration. Thankfully the horses were not needed while I was wandering around the scene with my camera. Enjoy.

Not all motorcycle clubs have their own police officer, but we do.(Although he has now retired from the force). And as a driving instructor in the police and rescue service, for many years, we sometimes struggle to keep up with him. Both on the road and in the bar..He he.👍

Captured in April 2019, this young person was counter protesting, amongst others, to a group who were holding an 'anti abortion' rally in George Square, Glasgow.
Yesterday the United Kingdom Government were praising the brave protests by Russian people in Russia. Anti war protests all across Russian cities were resulting in people being arrested and facing up to 5 years in prison. At the same time the United Kingdom Government voted through a new Police and Crime Bill which will remove our own democratic right to protest. It would see anything deemed as 'noisy protest' being given prison sentences of up to 10 years. Let that sink in.
Make no mistake that such a bill is an affront to the democratic right to protest. Protest is essential in a free and fair democracy. Without protest you have an autocracy that can further remove your rights and freedoms and you will have no power to demand otherwise.
We now, once again, rely on the House of Lords, an unelected body, to vote down the bill in order to preserve our democracy. The irony of this is not lost on me.
The world is seeing attacks on democracy from autocrats and dictators but also seeing attacks on democracy from within the very seat of democracy itself. Insanity abounds.
Stay safe my Flickr friends.

Anonymously captured in May 2017 and previously unpublished. I had arrived to what sounded like a woman being assaulted and a police officer rushing from his parked car. I was pleased that I had not arrived sooner to the location for fear that I would have simply had to have intervened!
Today, following devastating local elections for The Conservative Party, the State Opening of Parliament took place. HRH The Prince of Wales read a speech written by The Government in respect to their coming bills and actions for this session of government.
Laws previously rejected by The Lords for being too draconian are now back on the agenda. Bills set to make protesting ever more illegal. Once those are through there will be bills to reduce your basic human rights. The European Court of Human Rights will still be an option above and beyond the UK law but only for the very wealthy, there will be no legal aid to go beyond UK law. New bills are coming to alter electoral processes and the scope of areas, which follow on from a law already passed to remove independence from the Electoral Commission. Elections will be overseen by the Government in power.
When the Tory Government start stripping rights that mean something to you and they have already removed your legal right to protest against them, please don't start crying saying that you didn't see it coming.
Make no mistake - these are dark times. We have a populist autocratic Government bent on lies, cover ups and avoidance of accountability. We are on the verge of an elected dictatorship and our media are powerless as they are controlled by the Tory party or major donors to the Tory party. Well, aside from Channel 4 which is why the Tories want to sell it off!
Dark times. More police powers are coming. Fewer rights. Fewer freedoms. Less opportunity to affect change through voting. This is how Germany tumbled in the 1930s.

The final ceremonial honors at the funeral and interment of a 93-year-old man who served with honor as both a US Marine and then a lieutenant in the New York Poice Department. This was the most solemn of moments, as the Marines folded the flag that draped the casket before presenting it to the family. To the right of this frame, a lone Marine bugler was playing "Taps." -- Staten Island, NYC -- December 6, 2022

To all the police officers we owe our peaceful lives to your tireless endeavors. You put the safety of others before your own, and for that, I am eternally grateful. God bless all of you..
The face of a New York City police officer during the Women's March on January 21st, 2017. I call this Respect because of how these men and women in blue treated the marchers with respect and how the marchers, in turn, treated New York City's finest in a similar fashion. There was no show of force with batons waving in the air or any sense of a military-style occupation. The police were there to help route the march and the flow of traffic, as your friends. The march of 400,000 was peaceful in the tradition of those I marched in back in the 60s for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam. The NYPD has a tough job ahead of them with Trump Tower, the new President's home away from DC, being located in the heart of midtown Manhattan. I salute them for their courage and respect.

Hey, look! It's Mr. Doolittle from My Fair Lady.
Actually, no one I spoke to outside of Buckingham Palace (including police officers) knew who these people were. Other than they dress up in their Sunday finest, harness a couple of nags to their sulky, and clop on by the Queen's house -- during the "changing of the guard."
I've included a few more shots to give you some insight into this ritualistic and historical event that takes place regularly at Buckingham Palace in London, England.
Would I do this again? Watch the "changing of the guard?" Wait, and wait, and wait in crowds of people to watch a bunch of guys do something that I believe has lost its lustre over the years, and certainly -- it's intended meaning? NOPE! Especially in February without a warm jacket.
Enough said.
