Early in the morning, I had the pleasure to see the arrival of two American pelicans. It's impressive to see such large birds arrive and make a water landing.

I recently went on a two week birding trip with four good friends. We travelled to Point Pelee for the first four days. I saw 32 lifers in that time span!
We also saw some wildlife that we do not get to see in our home town.
It was a great trip

The DeLaurier homestead was one of the first French settlements in what is now Canada’s Point Pelee National Park. It illustrates the life and times of a small French-Canadian community outside Quebec and agricultural activity on Point Pelee between 1850 and 1966.

Canada’s Point Pelee National Park is situated in southwest Ontario near the town of Leamington. The word pelee is French for “bald”. Point Pelee consists of a peninsula of land, mainly of marsh and woodland habitats, that tapers to a sharp point as it extends into Lake Erie.

Point Pelee National Park, Ontario, Canada. Looking back towards Canada from the southernmost point in the country, which juts out into Lake Erie. The Park sits at the 42nd parallel, at the same latitude as Rome or Barcelona. The Park has fantastic wetlands, which are home to a variety of wildlife, especially birds.

We went down to Point Pelee today to look for the Townsend's Solitare that has been hanging around for about 2 weeks.
At first we thought we were going to miss it as it had just left the immediate area.
About 15 minutes later it came back and put on a nice show while feeding on berries.

If you ever thought that you liked berries, check out a Townsend's Solitaire's appetite. One study suggested they would need to eat between 42,000 and 84,000 juniper berries to survive the winter. Now that is a lot of berries.

My man Travis North is always good for an insightful article, and his most recent one on flattery and self evolution is definitely a great read. Check it out over at Shutter Photo... Also, a recent conversation about gear in one of my posts reminded me of another article, written by Eric Kim over at his blog. Want to know what's the BEST camera for street photography? :)
