Favorite time of the year to hang out at the beach!

"Point of View" is a landmark public sculpture in bronze by James A. West; it sits in a parklet named for the work of art, Point of View Park, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The piece depicts George Washington and the Seneca leader Guyasuta, with their weapons down, in a face-to-face meeting in October 1770, when the two men met while Washington was in the area examining land for future settlement along the Ohio River.

Point of View sits on the edge of Mt. Washington (Grandview Avenue at Sweetbriar Street) on the westernmost end of Grand View Scenic Byway Park and the Grand View Scenic Byway, a designated Pennsylvania scenic byway.

JUMP - by Madonna

"There’s only so much you can learn in one place

The more that I wait, then more time that I waste

I haven’t got much time to waste, it’s time to make my way

I’m not afraid of what I’ll face, but I’m afraid to stay

I’m going down my own road and I can make it alone

I'll work and I'll fight till I find a place of my own

Are you ready to jump?

Get ready to jump

Don’t ever look back, oh baby,

Yes, I’m ready to jump

Just take my hands

Get ready to jump

We learned our lesson from the start, my sisters and me

The only thing you can depend on is your family

And life’s gonna drop you down like the limbs of a tree

It sways and it swings and it bends until it makes you see

Are you ready to jump?

I'll work and I'll fight till I find a place of My own

It sways and it swings and it bends until you make it your own...

I can make it alone"

... then again... ...I'm not alone.

In Santa Barbara, California, the agave plant’s spiny leaves glow in the midday sunlight.

Just south of Jacksonport on the eastern side of Door County Wisconsin, at the north end of Whitefish Dunes Park on Lake Michigan is Cave Point County Park. The shoreline is carved into pools and caves and affords cliffs for daring youngsters to jump off and into the water. Less daring people like me simply admire the scenery and take pictures.

Time was really lacking this week: no opportunity to really catch great shots, no time for advanced processing. However, I still wanted to create something, so I simply took some photos on the way back from a family visit (some landscapes and trees along the road), and processed them a few hours, trying to obtain an interesting result. It's probably not an unforgettable image, but at least I hope it is a bit fun!

It only took waiting three hours for the weather to cooperate, and it finally pulled through in the nick of time.

Sugar Express’ “Sugar Eggspress” final run would be the 4 PM train out of Clewiston, departing on-time with a moderately full train. Following a successful catch at the Sugarland Canal trestle, a hectic 4.1 mile drive would ensue, driving along unmarked dirt roads through private cane fields, dodging loose rocks and an unexpected closed gate [a story me and Richard will tell until the end of time].

I would arrive to the spot at Liberty Point with no less than 3 minutes to spare, the 148’s CB&Q 5 chime audible from about a mile away. With the train clear of the Shawnee cane loadout to the south, the engineer opens up the throttle through the Liberty Point curve to continue their run to Moore Haven at track speed, 40 MPH. A gap between clouds finally allowed the sun to shine down on the Class 141 Pacific as it sweeped around the curve headed west.

One last series from the North rim of Grand Canyon and then onto Monument Valley.

another view from Huckleberry Point. Underneath is the lower end of Platte Clove. A cloud shadow moves along ground which is roughly 2,000 feet lower than we are. Afar are Hudson River, Kingston, and the northern Shawangunk Ridge.

This shot required a lot of patience because of the number of visitors - well, at least because of 2 of them. Some photographer set up against the lighthouse and shot his model who was posing on the picnic table. For about 45 minutes both his tripod and the model did not move. Ultimately this required 5 stacked exposures (one for FG DOF and 4 to "paint out" various people).

Long Point Lighthouse in Twillingate, NL was built in 1876 and is still operational. Photographed on Saturday, July 28th, 2007.

For me Aguereberry Point is one of the most amazing viewpoints in Death Valley National Park. It is located in the Panamint Mountains high above the valley floor on the opposite side of famous Dante's View.

Hurst Point - Hampshire

Palos Verdes, CA

Point Vicente Lighthouse was built in 1926 on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The light source was dimmed during World War II to avoid aiding the enemy. It was automated in 1971 by the United States Coast Guard. The original third-order Fresnel lens still revolves in the lantern room. In 2015, the Coast Guard announced its intention to install an LED light with a 14 nm range, replacing the current light and lens.

The Point Vicente Lighthouse is just north of the entrances to the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbors. It was operated and maintained by the United States Lighthouse Service prior to that Service being merged with the U.S. Coast Guard, which was delegated all aid-to-navigation responsibilities in 1939. The lighthouse was manned until 1971 when it was automated by a remote electronic aids-to-navigation monitoring system.

The white cylindrical tower is 67 feet (20 m) tall, and the masonry structure is built on the edge of a 130-foot (40 m) cliff. This places the center of the lantern 185 feet (56 m) above the ocean, and because of this elevation, the 1.1 million candlepower-beam has a nominal (clear weather) visible range of 24 nautical miles (44 km; 28 mi). The Coast Guard Light List specifies its light characteristic as being a pair of two white flashes, repeating that pair every 20 seconds. An emergency light of reduced intensity operates if the main light is extinguished. The most striking feature in the lighthouse is the classical third-order rotating Fresnel Lens located in the lantern. This particular lens was manufactured around 1910 in Paris, France, by Barbier, Bernard and Turenne, the oldest lens making company in the world. This lens is made up of hand-ground prisms held in place by a cast brass frame. The prisms and frame represent an excellent example of the precision achieved by optical scientists and the lens making art in utilizing the known principles and properties of light.

This lighthouse also incorporates a pleasant-sounding foghorn to audibly warn ships during times of low visibility which are common to the area.

Thanks for looking.
