Some Magnolia trees in Kansas City are blooming in September! I've never seen THAT before. Also, they have really colorful seed pods. Very Strange.
Situated in National Arboretum, Canberra, Pod Playground is a unique and entertaining playground featuring banksia cubby houses; acorn-shaped pods at various heights, connected by rope tunnels and tube slides; discovery trails and climbing nets.
The ancient Carnival held in the village of Podence is one of the most important traditional events of northern Portugal. The strong participation of the local community that has managed to preserve this tradition for centuries and its current importance in the region's cultural events were crucial factors for UNESCO to classify the Carnival of Podence as Intangible World Heritage.
During Carnival, the “devilish” figures of the Caretos - men, boys, women and girls wearing masks and costumes with colourful fringes, with masks made of tin or leather and bells attached around the waist - roam the streets of Podence making lots of noise to disturb the usual peace and quiet of the village.
Originally the Caretos were linked with the figure of the “devil on the loose” and represented the excesses, euphoria, and joy allowed at this time of year, after the cold winter months, while also celebrating the fertility of the approaching spring.

The Camas are all but done blooming for the year. This plant and ones nearby have been affected by various bugs. There may not be any (or very few) seeds from these plants this year. There should be 20-50 seed inside this pod.

These pods are up to 12 inches long and they can weigh almost 3 pounds. I got this at a rare wood place years ago and had no idea what they were used for until I saw one turned into a vase.
