Day 111/365 Red Drops

The rain last night made for magical bokeh and colors. Am I the only one who thought the day was weird yesterday? It felt so strange! I loved doing red, it was a lot of fun.

A Slow Shutter Speed and a Hand held Torch were used to achieve this effect

I was in Midtown with a little time on my hands before having dinner with friends. I said to myself, this is a good chance to play with the bright city lights, which is what I did. Here is the first of the results, featuring the bright red and yellow lights of a large neon sign.

Midtown; New York City

Late to the sunset party. I was able to "rescue" this photo, the second frame taken in a series.

Saw the sunset and clouds while riding my bike south from the Music Harry's Place. I wanted to get into a position to put the gazebo in the foreground, knowing all the while that the light and sunset was failing fast, and I might not make it. Once I got into position, I had to move around to partially "cover" the commercial buildings and neon signs across the river; all the while wondering if I could even handhold this low light shot with 80-200mm beast. Cropped some sky and grass off top and bottom and also cloned/healed out a jet contrail. Used a gradient mask to bring out the foreground.

“An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.”

All my life, I’ve lived terrified.

Terrified of not making heaven, terrified of God, terrified of judgement for not being perfect.

I don’t see the love of God that most do, I see a God of judgment waiting for me to make a mistake. He sets the bar in Matthew 5:48, asking me to be perfect. Impossible! Why does he ask me to do something that is clearly unattainable ?

Love your neighbor as yourself, he ask. Forgive one another or your Heavenly Father will not forgive you. If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. Why does our loving Christ ask us to do these things?

One of my favorite movies is Shawshank Redemption. The notorious quote from that film is “get busy living or get busy dying”. Today I’m going to start living with what he tells me at 1 John 5:13!

If I’ve wronged you in any way, I’m sorry! If you continue to treat me like shit, I’ll not speak to you. I’ll do my very best to try to do what is right and teach my daughters to treat others as they want to be treated. I’ll also teach them to avoid those who continue to hurt them. I will teach them it’s not about what your not allowed to do but what you can do. I believe he also said something along those lines in Mark 9:23

“I don’t talk with Jesus as much as I should.

I don’t read that good book every day like I could.

But I like to stop at the end of the day.

And I pray that I hurt nobody and somebody new found their way.” - Cody Jinks

What a sight greeted me so early in the morning. This is the view from the deck of a home that's been in my family since before I was born, so over the years as I've visited it's always a welcome sight. I had never seen it at dawn before this morning. It was a rich reward to see it in this light.
