This was challenging for me to edit. I regret my fabric and surface choices but did the best I could with what I used. My daughter helped me create these cute paper plates for the snail to spin, you can't tell but she drew snails on a few of them.

Decatur and Eastern Illinois (DREI) (former-NS/ex-SOU 5020) GP38-2 #3896 leads a four-unit consist and 112-car loaded grain train south out of Oakland, Illinois. The deactivated approach signal once warned north-bound Nickel Plate crews of a crossing with the Pennsy, now long gone.
A Watco subsidiary, the DREI initiated operations in September 2018 with the purchase of the CSX (ex-B&O) Decatur Subdivision and Danville Secondary Subdivision, connecting Decatur, Illinois and Terre Haute, Indiana. In December 2019, the railroad expanded by acquiring the Eastern Illinois Railroad (EIRC), consisting of approximately 56-miles of the former Nickel Plate Cloverleaf line between Neoga and Metcalf. The two lines are connected at Metcalf, forming a “V” pointed to the north east.
The train will head south for Charleston, pick up a fifth unit, and press on for Neoga, where the railroad interchanges with Canadian National. Although the hogger hasn't turned on the headlight yet, 3896 sports a wonky set of ditch lights that flash in unison, permitting me to time this shot to their "on" cycle.

This Romanesque portal was added in the 12th century to the church dating from the end of the 11th century.
During the wars of religion in the 16th century, it was dismantled by Catholics who feared its destruction. Its entrance is walled and a small off-center door, easier to defend, is open. The eardrum plates are placed 10 m high, protected from possible attacks.
In 1923, during the restoration of the church, the architect Louis-Albert Mayeux planned to integrate them into a restitution of the missing portal that he wanted to create and for which he had drawn the plan. But during the work a good surprise awaits him. Behind a 16th century facing, he discovers the real 12th century portal, in poor condition but almost complete! The architect therefore resumes his project on the basis of the original portal.
The limestone tympanum contrasts sharply with the red sandstone facade. Its half-relief sculptures represent the Ascension, the elevation of Christ to heaven after the Resurrection. In the center of the upper register Christ is carried to heaven by two angels, surrounded by two other crouching angels. In the lower register, the Virgin surrounded by eleven apostles watches the scene. The treatment of the representation is strongly inspired by the tympanum of Cahors Cathedral.
The two trefoil arches with crossettes hemmed with pearls which support the tympanum are supported by 4 capitals with beaded palmettes. Only the one on the right, topped by a bear handler holding his animal by a rope, is original. The other three are copies of the first, made for the 1984 restoration.
About thirty kilometers away, in Saint-Chamant, there is a portal from the same period very similar to that of Collonges.

Nearly 6,000 years ago, a group of people from the Pontic-Caspian Steppe known as the Indo-Europeans would begin a series of migrations that would change the world forever. These migrations were slow and wouldn't fully kick off until around 2000 B.C. with the invention of the chariot. They were the first people to domesticate the horse, but the horses of this time weren't suited for riding as they were much smaller. The chariot would fill this void and it would give the Indo-European peoples the ability to ride out and conquer. These people would slowly diverge from one another and would migrate from the steppes of Southern Russia to Europe, Central Asia, Anatolia, Iran, Western China, and Northern India. They would change the demographics of these places forever and their biggest impact would be the introduction of their language. The Indo-European language would evolve into languages we know of today such as English, Spanish, Russian, Germanic, Persian, Hindi, Sanskrit, to name a few.
One might ask, how was this confirmed? It all started in 1786 with British judge and philologist Sir William Jones. He was a judge in Bengal during British rule and besides English he spoke Latin, Greek, Sanskrit and many other languages. He noticed a pattern in which all of these languages had similar words and proposed the Indo European Migration theory. Since then it was widely debated where the original Indo-Europeans came from. Some believed it was India, Central Asia, Anatolia etc. It wasn't until the 1950s when the Kurgan Hypothesis was developed by Lithuanian Prof. Dr. Marija Gimbutas. This was rejected by many who believed they had come from Central Asia, but thanks to recent genetic studies done by people like David Reich, she was correct.
There's a lot more to this topic, but here's the summary of it. I wanted to try out this grass technique ever since I saw Full Plate and Gabe use it. I'm pleased with how it came out and would likely use it again in the future.
