Monday was super lame. Not a busy week at all.

My entry to Moda Bake Shop Sliced Contest (Auditions).

This version of my week planner is designed for two family members (each member has its own row) - half of charm pack is needed to make it (for colorful parts) plus fabric for white sashing, fabrics for back and binding.

In version for four family members one charm pack is needed (for colorful parts) plus fabric for white sashing, fabrics for backing and binding.

It can be also used at the office.

Corners of each square are pockets to put there cards with plan for each day of the week or another information. These corners were made from 1/4 of charms and they are sewn between the rows.

Buckle is used to indicate day of the week. When the day changes, buckle is moved to another.

Depending on weight of the buckle (mine is quite heavy) buttons for secure the strip are needed.

Machine quilted (cotton batting was used) and machine bound.

This is the Weekly view of my DIY planner I designed and printed at home. For years I'd used every planner system on the market - Covey, Day-Timer, Time Design - you name it - I've used them. Gets quite expensive after so many years! So, I took all the best ideas from every system and incorporated them all into my own page design. Hope you like it! This is my first photo so I apologize if the quality's a little off. There are various other sections and forms I've created which I hope to post soon if anyone is interested. On a final note, I've been browsing everyone's planner pics for a long time now and am SO glad there are others out there with the same passion for planners and paper that I have.

Brasilia, Brazil's inland federal capital, built from scratch 50 years ago, on a high plateau of the Central West, an extreme & extremely strange 20th century example of modern architecture & urban planning. Officially declared Brazil's new capital in April 1960, it was conceived by architect Oscar Niemeyer, urban planner Lucio Costa & landscape architect Burle Marx ( by commission of then president Juscelino Kubitscheck) & built with the labour of millions of poor peasants in only 3 years. A city of colourless monolithical federal buildings, dominated by Oscar Niemeyer's architecture, widely spaced along a broad relatively treeless avenue....and numbered blocks of identical apt buildings (called Super Quadras) branching out north & south, like aeroplane wings, from the base of the shaft that is Esplanada dos Ministerios. It seems designed to maximize efficiency without consideration for the heart & soul that constitutes human urban inhabitancy. Located beside a huge artificial lake, whereas the avenue of federal bldgs is a concrete wilderness with little shelter or shade from the hot sun, the residential Quadras are surrounded by ecological parks & green space & carry a calming air of tranqulity, stillness & silence. But on the streets & pathways that run through the Quadras.....no people. Feels a bit like a tropical ghost town of uniform towers.

Bionic Gear Bag and Planner Cover...two peas in a pod! Totally out of my wheel house on this kind of project!

It is time for the release of the next 6 months' worth of Chronodex!

In 2011, my family received thousands of prayers for my father's condition, it was a lot of positive and calming energy and I still appreciate many of your kind messages to this date.

2014 image

Chronodex as a creative tool was shared to make a difference in traditional and limiting grid-style scheduling. It was also shared to elevate positive energy for myself and my family. This time my wife needs your prayers, tomorrow she will go through an operation as the first battle against breast cancer, there will be a series of followup treatments I hope it will pass like a breeze. I hope to maintain a clear mind and yet being able to take it easy for why things happened the way they are, in terms of work, love, dreams and health (Did I just unconsciously telling myself that I've been putting these in the wrong priority?).

Here's the Jan - Jun 2014 no holiday version download!

The Chronodex Facebook Page is going to be the center of version releases, news update, hacks sharing, so please do stop by once in a while to see what others are doing with their Chronie.

The Chronodex Flickr Group is a place where nicer photos were taken by users. The Instagram hash tag #chronodex allows you to find yet another bunch of interesting users and the crazy things they've done.

On the other hand, do Google up Chronodex for the fun of it. There have been a lot of mods in various paper sizes (A5, filofax, etc) or altered cores, as long as they are shared free, I'm ok. Some of the Chronodex super fans reported that there are people on Etsy selling Chronodex, that I'm not ok. So far, I've issued no license to anybody for commercial usage, but I will consider if it is a quality implementation.

Although creating your own ways to notate from a Chronodex core is encouraged, be it colors, pinpointing on tick marks or radiate from zones etc, I do have some tips I want to share in 2014. That's why I'm working on an upgrade of the core (now in its version 8, 9 and 10) which will allow you to draw with guides and simply look more elegant and smart. In the mean time, Maryanne Moll (Thanks Maryanne) did some nice videos on youTube sharing her way of using Chronodex, take a look:

For the fun of it, here's some beautiful Chronodex to look at:

(I've visited Seoul for business at the end of October, we had a great gathering of the Traveler's Notebook Korea User Group, they are absolutely amazing TN and Chronodex users, which I'm gonna talk about it in later posts. Jessica and several of her friends printed the Chronodex core on the passport size and kind enough to find a page not too personal to share here)

Finally, some of you already knew I have a Chronodex stamp under progress. It was too bad one of the parts maker went out of business so I had to find another quality maker to continue the project. I've tried many different ways and I found an elegant solution, I am determined to release a self-inking Chronodex stamp in 2014, you will love it!

I use Post-it-Notes tabs of three color and assigned four months for each color.

I got it early to tab it out and then add in birthdays, and anniversaries.

I have a whole years to look forward to.

The Post it stickers are removable and durable.

Sharpies fine marker seems to work well on the plastic surface of the Post-it Notes.

This set of planner pages can be filled out with the current dates for any given year. I turned the designs into a pdf so that you can print and make your own custom planner at www.droplet.etsy.com

A week from my planner.

Aircraft History

The transportation of oversized cargo has always been a tremendous problem for logistics planners in government and private industry. The physical limitations of railroad tunnels, narrow roads, low bridges and power lines make overland shipment of such cargo virtually impossible. NASA was particularly vexed by this problem during the early years of America’s space race, when large rocket parts destined for Cape Kennedy had to be shipped by barge through the Panama Canal or Gulf of Mexico. This amounted to a significant investment in time during a period where we had little to spare.

In 1961, California-based Aero Spaceline Industries solved this problem when it introduced the first Guppy aircraft. Built from a heavily modified KC-97 Stratotanker, the Pregnant Guppy featured the largest cargo compartment of any aircraft ever built. At just over 19’ in diameter, this massive cavity was specifically designed to carry the second stage of a Saturn rocket for the Apollo program. Because of the Pregnant Guppy, NASA was able to deliver crucial oversized cargo to the Cape in eighteen hours as opposed to 18 to 25 days aboard a barge. To say that this amazing aircraft helped America win the space race would be an understatement!

The program was so successful that ASI followed up with an even larger version of the aircraft in 1965. Dubbed the Super Guppy, it was equipped with a 25’ diameter cargo bay, more powerful engines, a pressurized cockpit, and a hinged nose for easier loading of cargo. ASI continued to own and operate the aircraft until 1979, when NASA purchased the aircraft from them. During its illustrious 32 years of service, the original Super Guppy flew over three million miles in support of NASA’s Apollo, Gemini, Skylab, and the International Space Station programs.

The Super Guppy Turbine is the last generation of Guppy aircraft ever produced and only four were ever made. The most important difference between it and its predecessor was the upgrade to more reliable and readily available Allison T-56 turboprops. Operated by Airbus Industries after they were purchased from ASI, the SGTs were used to ferry large A300 fuselage sections throughout Europe during the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. When Airbus retired its fleet to museums in 1997, NASA was able to acquire SGT number 4 to replace the aging Super Guppy under an International Space Station barter agreement with the European Space Alliance.

NASA’s Super Guppy Turbine continues to support America’s space program today, but with its unique capabilities it has attracted the attention of other government entities as well. In recent years, the Guppy has been working with the Department of Defense and government contractors to move aircraft and large components around the continent, including T-38s for the Air Force and V-22s for the Navy. Although much of the glory of America’s space program may be behind it, the Super Guppy continues to be one of the only practical options for oversized cargo and stands ready to encompass a bigger role in the future. There is something special about a well-worn leather planner.

This one is at least 10 years old - probably much older. It was originally for work, was replaced a few years ago, but was still perfectly serviceable.

So now it’s my At Home planner, and most importantly my photography planner.

It’s daily pages list the challenges for the day, and a sticky note for the weekly challenges so I can just move it from day to day and cross things off as accomplished.

I’ve created numerous pages full of lists of ideas, props, sets, as well as tracking progress on the year-long challenge groups.

For various reasons, the pandemic threw me off my well-ordered path last year - something I’m trying very hard to fix this year.

Yes - taken with the iPhone. I actually went out and took a picture of bark with the Nikon, earlier, but then sat down at the Kitchen Table and... well... the planner was calling to me.

Niemeyer Cultural Centre, Le Havre, France

Officially inaugurated in November 1982, this building, all volumes and curves, imposes a lyrical presence in a strictly orthogonal urban environment. It was renovated and refurnished in 2014. The architect and city planner Auguste Perret wanted the Place Gambetta to be once more the artistic and cultural centre of the city. But this was not to be. Oscar Niemeyer will be the one to fulfil Perret’s ambition between 1978 and 1982. Therefore the two masters of reinforced concrete show each other off: the free and fluid lines of Oscar Niemeyer echo the majestic and orthogonal ones of Auguste Perret in admirable fashion. Brasilia & Le Havre - These two twentieth century cities belong to the World Heritage list: Le Havre, rebuilt after WWII, and the new city of Brasilia. Listed in 1987, the Capital of Brazil was created from scratch at the end of the 1950s, at the very centre of the country, by urbanist Lucio Costa and architect Oscar Niemeyer, who built particularly innovative official buildings there. The creation of Brasilia was a major event of the history of urbanism because of the challenge at stake, the enormous size of the project and monies involved. The Maison de la Culture (cultural centre) of Le Havre is one of the major projects famous sculptor-architect Oscar Niemeyer realized outside of his country, Brazil. His architectural expression follows the tenets of Le Corbusier. Architecture here shows a veil of concrete painted white, free curving shapes trying to express architectural poetry. Loved, hated, misunderstood, acknowledged the world over, Oscar Niemeyer’s work leaves no-one unmoved. The Maison de la Culture is renamed Le Volcan (the Volcano) in 1990. The Volcano - Hyperbolic, it is the largest building whose shell was calculated and drawn using a computer programme derived from a NASA one. There used to be 1.200 seats in the theatre, on an amphitheatre lay-out, looking out over a 25,70 m wide, 8,50 m high stage. The theatre was totally renovated in 2015, wood being the main material used: seats, flooring, entrance hall desks. A smaller theatre is available, used for shows for children and conferences. The Oscar Niemeyer Library - A smaller hall used to present various artistic and theatre projects, concerts or dance shows. Nowadays, it has been turned into a modern Public library.

When i first saw Patrick Ng‘s mind.Depositor i was blown away. It is very sophisticated and looks so great! But i wanted to build something around my beloved Moleskine 18 months - Weekly Notebook. I started with some sketches and a paperboard mock-up. It worked fine and i decided to use it for a while. So i went through my old magazines in search for some nice pictures that would prettify it.

Love adding stuffs on my planner

My very first handmade calendar/planner. I used mostly recycled papers and the plastic covers are recycled too.

Intended to get a Rhodia planner for 2010 but I haven't got the time to go for a hunt.

And in order to cut cost, i decided to transform my existing notebook refills into a planner.

Spent 1.5 hours drawing the lines, and manually stamped the dates into the notebooks.

For 2010, I will be carry this Traveler's planner, a pile of index card, and the monthly calender. Planner allows me to pen down my appointments so that I can refer back;

index card allows me to pen down my TDL, expenses, personal appointment (reminder).

Monthly calender contains mostly work related information - meetings, payroll, training, stock take, etc..
