I had a few hours free before my flight home. I went back to a nice spotting area at the end of the 26s for coffee and breakfast. After checking in for my flight I spent time in the American Airlines gate area. I took these photos at the beginning of December 2022.

I visited Las Vegas mainly to watch the Red Flag exercise being held in January 2022 at Nellis AFB. We have been to several exercises before and expected a bunch of activity but on the 1st Monday of the 2nd week, not too much was going on. It looked like a normal training day. We could see the B-52s and B-2 on the flight line but they never moved during the day. Also working against us was the very high winds in the area. Very few Flex West departures, most were straight out. Oh well, here's hoping to a better day tomorrow!

I took these photos on 31 January 2022 outside of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas.

This was a lovely day to be outside of Nellis AFB watching Red Flag 21-1 take place. A bunch of fighters started the day off, followed by tankers and then the bombers. Decent blue skies made better photos. I have a hard time getting tack sharp photos for most takeoffs but things look better when everything comes home.

I took these photos outside of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada in early February 2021.

I flew into LAX to attend the Los Angeles Comic Con; I added a few days to do some plane watching. As usual I thought I brought the crappy weather with me. The first morning was blah; cold weather, heavy marine layer of clouds, a real dull and boring sky. Fortunately the clouds burned off around noon and it turned into a great day. Since I was staying near Clutter's Park I spent my time there. I was able to shoot some cool special liveries and aircraft/airliners new to me. I took these photos at the end of November 2023, beginning of December 2023.

LAX is a plane watching paradise - it's always busy and there is a great mix of domestic and international airlines. I try to stay near there a few times a year. On this trip I had just finished attending the WonderCon in Anaheim so I stayed a day at the H Hotel, famous for their 12th floor terrace. This terrace provides good views of both the 24 and 25 runways but lighting and obstructions are a problem - but it's still fun! I took these photos at the end of March 2023.

These photos are from our second day the Red Flag 23-1 at Nellis Air Force Base in last January 2023. The day started off good with a bunch of Flex West departures. For some reason which we can't figure out, all the departures switched to straight out departures - pretty boring and not good for photography. Later in the afternoon we headed to Cheyenne Avenue for the recovery operations - and we weren't disappointed but it seems like the heavies landed on 21L instead. Oh well!

Photographed on 13 April 2020 over my back garden at around 2300ft, this cropped image shows Cargolux Boeing 747-8 LX-VCC in the Cargolux 50 Years anniversary livery "Car50lux".

As a proud and caring, non frontline, NHS worker of many years I would like to wish everyone the very best at this difficult time. Stay Home and Cherish the NHS. Let's all hope for a better future and for everyone that has been effected by the necessary lockdown measures. I hope those involved in my other passion, aviation, will come through this exceptional time in a strong place.

I headed over to Clutters Park on a very foggy Sunday morning at the end of July 2021. It was surreal. Visibility was nil at first, varying from dense to almost a whiteout. I could hear the planes but not see anything. Over the next few hours the fog lessened then increased. I could see planes on the ground but they went out of sight about three seconds after takeout. Eventually the fog burned off and things got back to normal. It was a very cool day!!

My wife and I drove to NAF El Centro to catch the Blue Angels practice for their first air show of the season. We were also fortunate enough to see some of the T-45 Goshawks trainers and other aircraft in town for the air show. Excellent day weather-wise. I took these photos in mid-March 2023 - what a great day!

We love heading to Nellis Air Force Base 1-2 times a year to catch the Red Flag Exercise. There is usually a really good mix of US and international forces. This year there were RAF Typhoons and a tanker. I understand the Australians headed for it but didn't make it by the time we were there. We lucked out in that many of the takeoffs involved Flex West departures which put the fighters banking right over the Speedway. We had really good weather (except for the wind) and really enjoyed this trip. We were there for 2.5 days in late January 2023.

We had a long travel day getting to London on the prior day. My wife wanted to sleep in so she told me to head out and do some plane watching. With the Heathrow runway rotation landings were happening on 27L in the morning this week. It was a very pleasant morning, nice temps and skies. I did most of my shooting at the Myrtle Avenue field. I arrived shortly after sunrise and there were already people there - that always amazes me!

This was our first trip to Bali. The first morning after arriving my wife and I both had jet lag. The wife opted to sleep, I took a beach walk and spotted planes landing in the distance. I found some shade and watched some landings until I melted from the heat and humidity. I only had a 70-180mm lens with me and really needed a 400-600mm lens. Heat haze and the fence line also affected photo quality. We left Bali several weeks later and I had a chance to shoot from the International Terminal - that was much better, even with shooting through tinted glass. DPS was fairly busy with a nice mix of Indonesian and international flights coming in. I would definitely go back there again.

Photos from my 2nd day at the 22-1 Red Flag Exercises held at Nellis AFB outside of Las Vegas. The morning was very slow but things picked up shortly after noon. A number of fighters took off, followed by 2 B-52s, 3 B-2s, and a number of support aircraft. A major wind event was coming into Las Vegas and I think that led to a lot of last minute Flex West departure cancellations. It also made things very dusty, gritty, and hazy. For recovery operations everyone made a beeline to the Cheyenne Avenue spots. Excellent day but it was freezing by the time the last B-2 landed shortly after sunset. I took these photos on 2/1/2022.

We had some time to kill at DFW before our flight to LHR so we went to the American Airlines Flagship Lounge. Great lounge with an awesome view. It seems like 95% of the traffic is American Airlines but we did see some heavies and international airliners there. We also got to see fire fighting training going on - it was unnerving at first but they did it several times while we were there. I took these photos in January 2025.

Every year the Warhawk Air Museum at Nampa Airport organizes the Warbird Roundup featuring aircraft from the WW II era and some other special visitors. This year's roundup was possibly the best ever - a great assortment of classic warbirds and a F-35A Lighting II from Hill AFB doing a demo flight. Picture perfect weather too.

Advice needed - I need to improve my propeller aircraft photography skill - I'm trying for crisp images and propeller blur but I'm not quite there yet. If you can help please send me a Flickrmail with your recommended settings. Thanks!

I took these photos at the end of August 2022 at the Nampa Airport, Nampa Idaho.

These photos are from a last minute trip I was able to book to London in May 2022. We were there in April 2022 and it was an adventure, not in a good way. My wife and I were both sick and spent most of the time at the hotel. No fun. She knew I was restless and didn't feel complete so she encouraged me to go back. Sounds good to me! I took these photos shortly after arriving on 5/12/2022. Landings were on 27L so I headed for the Myrtle Field for a few hours and then returned to the Premier Inn T4. Great weather and long daylight made for a great return.

Some early morning and late afternoon photos from the Premier Inn Terminal 4 at London Heathrow. Nice view from the rooms but it's hard for me to get crisp shots through the double pane/glazed windows. Enough complaining - it was still a blast. I took these photos in mid-May 2022.

This was my last half day in Anchorage. I spent a few hours along the west side of the airport to catch an arriving Boeing Large Cargo Freighter (BCLF); there was one also leaving. After that I returned the rental car, checked in, and went to the observation area of the airport - it is a nice place to stay, even though you're shooting through glass. All in all it was a great trip, despite the crappy weather. I'm always looking forward to going back!

I took these photos from one of the parking garages at LAS. I checked in early and had some time to kill so I wandered up to this spotting spot - it was pretty nice - and cold. It was about 35 degrees with a nasty wind blowing. I lasted about an hour before heading back inside. I would definitely come back here again - when it is warmer!

This WW II vintage aircraft, a B-17 belonging to the Commemorative Air Force, makes an annual visit to the War Hawk Museum. It's always a joy to see her but dang, can we get some clear weather? We are suffering from eye, nose, and throat irritating wildfire smoke. When she was in the air I could hear her long before anyone could see her. Fortunately, checking out my wife is always good for my sore eyes!

Great day for watching planes! Picture perfect skies, nice temps, not too windy. The day got off with some excitement. The first batch of planes were taking off to the NE and then they changed runways - just as the B-2s were taxiing. We had to make the quick shuffle from the Speedway location to the Cheyenne area. We missed the first B-2 but caught the second one. This is a nice location for spotting - except you get mostly belly shots. Oh well, you can't have everything you want! I took these photos at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada in early February 2021.

These photos are from our third day of plane spotting at the 21-1 Red Flag exercises at Nellis AFB. After watching many takeoffs to the south in the morning we headed back to the Speedway area to watch the recoveries. What a great day to be outside - perfect weather and we definitely got a good workout watching everything coming home from the training range.

I took these photos near Nellis AFB, outside of Las Vegas, in early February 2021.

After a pleasant drive from Los Angeles I arrived in Las Vegas on a lovely afternoon. Before heading to the hotel I decided to sit near the end of 26L and watch some planes come and go. Nice choice. A steady stream of planes landing in a beautiful late afternoon sky. I found a spot in a little strip mall and had a really nice view. Not a bad way to spend about two hours. I took these photos in early December 2022.

My wife and I visited Las Vegas to check out Red Flag 21-3, a big exercise for the USAF, Navy, and some foreign countries. It's a great experience watching so many warplanes coming and going. Las Vegas in August is HOT - as in over 100 degrees so we were sweltering. I still can't seem to get consistent tack sharp photos of the high speed takeoffs so I will keep practicing. Any advice is welcome.

Jet2 Boeing 757-21B G-LSAI heads for runway 04 at London Stansted, having arrived earlier from Manchester, for a flight to Faro.

Taken at the monthly spotters meet run by the Essex Police Plane Watch scheme.

After attending the 2022 WonderCon I stayed close to LAX at the H Hotel. I do love their terrace. It was cool to see so many heavies landing. Unfortunately I seem to visit whenever Los Angeles has murky, blah skies - what a bummer. I took these photos in early April 2022.

I thought the Weapons School Integration exercise was scheduled to take place for two weeks in late November and early December. I was in the area at this time and went to Nellis to check it out. Nothing. There were three B-1s, three B-52s, and a bunch of electronic warfare planes and tankers, but nothing was moving, not even the Nellis based aircraft. I had a sinking feeling when I drove along the Speedway and there were no plane spotters to be seen. I sat around for about 12 hours over two days and saw less than a dozen planes come and go. What a sad experience. Better luck next time!

I was in Los Angeles to attend the big Anime Expo ComicCon at the Convention Center. On this day it was ungodly hot and I was dying. I left early; my hotel was near Clutter's Park so I decided to head for the park to enjoy the breeze and much cooler temps. I lucked out with the air traffic - many Europe bound widebodies heading out, really interesting sky too. Definitely not a bad choice!

I had some time before my flight home to Boise so I found a nice area past Security to do some plane watching. SJC is a lovely airport with good views of the active runway. I was lucky enough to catch a special livery and the arrival of a Zipair 787. Nice way to pass the time!

I took advantage of an Alaska Air fare sale to MCO, rented a car, and headed to MIA and FLL for a few days. The photography gods were with me on this trip. Very good weather and a nice variety of airplanes. The only negative was the ongoing construction at the Holes - hopefully it is finished sometime soon.

I took these photos in mid-December 2021 at Miami International Airport.

We had to make a connection in DFW for a flight to London so I took some photos from one of the American Airlines lounges. Decent view, not much interesting traffic while we were there, but it helped pass the time. I took these photos in early November 2021.
