The geeklet is almost to the point where he can occupy himself on the plane. Not quite, but it was nice to take a few minutes here and there to just read or nap.

This is one of my favorite photos. I was a wildland firefigher for 3 summers and rarely got to take a picture on the job - mostly b/c if you were close enough to something worth getting a shot of you weren't supposed to have a camera out. If you look close there is a lot to notice - the sun being blotted by the smoke, the height of the flames (compare the trees in the distance to those in the foreground => 100 ft flame lengths), the optical illusion formed by the wings of the plane (is it turning towards or away from the fire), the tiny guide plane out in front of the big one, etc.
Leaning Tower, Pisa, Italy. A plane passes by and I took the opportunity to take this plane attack the tower shot.

Planes are not normally my thing, but it was an overcast weekend and photos needed to be taken. So we went to the Western Canada Aviation Museum. I had never been before and it wasn't a bad way to spend an hour or two on a grey day.
In 1973 the pilot of a US Navy DC plane mistakenly switch to a wrong fuel tank, ended up crashing at the black sand beach of Sólheimasandur, south coast of Iceland.

the interesting thing about this, why i bothered was the lack of clouds here. for most of the time in the air view of the earth was blocked by clouds. then suddenly. there were none. and oh what we could see.
