Während der Nepalatial-Periode nahmen Größe und Anzahl der Vorratsgefäße zu. Dies war wahrscheinlich auf das Bevölkerungswachstum, eine intensivere Landwirtschaft und eine organisierte Produktionsverwaltung zurückzuführen.

In Palästen, peripheren Zentralgebäuden und Häusern wurden Pithoi in verschiedenen Formen und Größen gefunden. Analysen organischer Rückstände haben gezeigt, dass sie feste und flüssige Güter wie Getreide, Hülsenfrüchte, Wein und lebende Tiere enthielten. Viele Pithoi waren sehr groß und mit aufwendigen Reliefverzierungen versehen, die als Zeichen von Reichtum und Prestige dienten.

Die Größe der Lagerräume in Verbindung mit der hohen Lagerkapazität der Pithoi zeugt von Verteilungsmechanismen und einer komplexen Wirtschaftsorganisation.

This style of pottery is named after Kamares cave where this style of pottery was first found. kamares ware typically has designs of white, red and blue on a black field and the designs often include abstract floral motifs.

Fine examples of Kamares ware made in Phaistos can be seen at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum including ridged cups, small, round spouted jars, and large storage pithoi jars, on which combinations of abstract curvilinear designs and stylised plant and marine motifs are painted in white and tones of red, orange, and yellow on black grounds.
