Ferrari whizzing past an access point by the bridge at VIR. Field was under caution at this moment so I dropped the shutter speed to get a few cheap-n-easy pans.
Did need to pre-focus and then begin panning as AF tracking from the right was not possible due to obstructions. Kind-of a crap-shoot to get the focus right.

Well... not really as he finished last in class... though there were only 2 participants in the GTA category.
This was an experimental outing to test my old 400 on my 5D and 7D. I did not have a chance to try this set-up here at The Glen as my 300 has become my primary.
I was not terribly happy with the way the 7D performed and has disappointed me for the last time. I just do not like the way it renders and it's hit-or-miss AF system... regardless of the quality of glass on the end.

All things considered, I think the quality held-up pretty well considering this setup.
Canon 70-200 f2.8 usm II with 2x teleconverter at 400 f5.6 on a 5D MkIV. Cropped from 6729 pixels wide down to 3000 pixels wide. 56% reduction crop and no up-sampling.

My second trip to VIR. Wanted to improve on some shots from last year and find new angles. Happy to say that I had only 1 fence in my way.
This was also the first time really focusing on using the 400mm for an event since retiring the 100-400. Really didn't miss it or the convenience of a zoom. I am pretty happy with how this 25 year old lens performs.

Trying my hand at dragging the shutter speed a little more for panning. Probably not the best area of the track to try this as it a very active section (snake section) as they’re zigging and zagging and banging-over the curbs but figured, why not give it a go.

Loved the morning sun light here. Great reward for getting to the track shortly after 7am. Since I now shoot in Monochrome for exposure purposes and better understanding of light, I felt this shot looked better as such.
