Pinus leucodermis 'Schmidtii' (Bosnian Redcone Pine, or Smidtii Dwarf Bosnian Pine). A dense, mounded dwarf pine with rich green foliage and tight branch structure. Discovered in 1926 by Eugene Smidt in Bosnia.
This longleaf pine is perhaps 24" in diameter at chest height, quite large by Carolina Sandhills NWR standards. While young longleaf begin their lives perfectly straight, mature trees often show a rather chaotic shape

Grey Pines (family Pinaceae), formally known as Digger Pines, are endemic to dry, rocky regions of California and a prevalent component of the Pinnacles flora.

American Conifer Society: Pinus uncinata, as described in 1805 by Louis-Florent-Marcel Raymond (1915–1972), ex Alphonse Louis Pierre Pyramus de Candolle (1806 - 1893), in Flore Française. Troisième Édition, by Jean Baptiste Antoine Pierre de Monnet de Lamarck, and Alphonse Louis Pierre Pyramus de Candolle, is commonly known as Swiss mountain pine, or mountain pine; as well as pin à crochets in the French language; and pino negro in Spanish. The species name, uncinata ("hooked point") refers to the pronounced prickle present on the seed cones.
Many authors consider this pine to be a subspecies of Pinus mugo, i.e. P. mugo subsp. uncinata.
Closely related to Mugho Pines. Limited info. on Zelenac ~6.5in, Feb 2019.
