Over the millennia, these branches have become very twisted. These trees are the oldest plant life on the planet and have been growing for more than 5,000 years.

One of 4 or 5 trees laden with Pine Siskins at Elgin Heritage Park. I focused upon low-hanging fruit for a close up, but couldn't find a nice yellow one prior to them all flying off.
