The Ta' Pinu Sanctuary, just outside the village of Gharb in Gozo.

The National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu is a Roman Catholic parish church and minor basilica built on the site of a 16th century chapel. The origins of the shrine that stands here now date back to 1883, when a local woman is reported to have heard the voice of the Virgin Mary in the old chapel. In following years, many miracles and acts of grace were reported at the site and the islanders decided to build a larger and more magnificent church on the site. Building began in 1922 and the church was consecrated in 1931. More recently, it has been visited by Pope John Paul II, who celebrated mass here in 1990, and Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.

Photo processing details: 4 landscape format raw files. 5 exposures at ½ stop increments from -1 to + 1 were created from each raw, then merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. The resulting files were then stitched in Panorama Maker and finished in Photoshop, using Topaz Detail and curves adj layers.

With the Pico de Teide in the background. At this elevation, about 1900 m above sea level, and in the drought of the relatively recent lava fields, Pinus canariensis grows at its fysiological limits. Higher up the mountains, it is replaced by scrubs and dwarf scrubs of the Spartocytisetea supranubii (in the background right).

The High Tatras are a high mountain range at the border of Poland and Slovakia. They are part of the Tatras mountain chain which again is part of the Carparthians.

The High Tatras are a well-known hiking and winter sport region. There are several beautiful glacial lakes in the High Tatras.

The highest peak of the High Tatras (and also of the whole Carparthians) is Gerlachovský štít (Gerlach Peak) with 2655 m (8711 ft).

---quotation from en.wikipedia.org:---

The High Tatras, having 29 peaks over 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) AMSL are, with the Southern Carpathians, the only mountain ranges with an alpine character and habitats in the entire 1,200 kilometres (750 mi) length of the Carpathian Mountains system. The first European cross-border national park was founded here—Tatra National Park—with Tatra National Park (Tatranský národný park) in Slovakia in 1948, and Tatra National Park (Tatrzański Park Narodowy) in Poland in 1954. The adjacent parks protect UNESCO's trans-border Tatra Biosphere Reserve. (...)

Many rare and endemic animals and plant species are native to the High Tatras. They include the Tatras' endemic goat-antelope and critically endangered species, the Tatra chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra tatrica). Predators include Eurasian brown bear, Eurasian lynx, marten, wolf and fox. The Alpine marmot is common in the range. (...)

Flora of the High Tatras includes: the endemic Tatra scurvy-grass (Cochlearia tatrae), yellow mountain saxifrage (Saxifraga aizoides), ground covering net-leaved willow (Salix reticulata), Norway spruce (Picea abies), Swiss pine (Pinus cembra), and European larch (Larix decidua).

Setophaga pinus. This is a bird of pine forests in the eastern US. Unlike many other warblers it’s only a short distance migrant with most wintering in the southern US. I was a little late getting on to this bird as the group had spread out. Not quite the shot I wanted but at least it shows the wing bars.

Smooth Barked Mexican Pine

I took this shot up amongst the mountains of Zion with some dear friends this Summer. It will always be one of my favorites.

Many people through ages upon ages have been fantasizing and investigating the concept of inmortality. Being alive forever, rejecting the need to choose. Maybe is one of those senseless and contradictory races of the society, judging by how the ephemeral values in life like youth and beauty have always been considered.

And there I was, seated in the back seat of the faded red car with those pudgy cheeks resting on the cold window pane. Absent eyes traveling as fast as us, wondering where were we. Waiting for the time to stop, explore and share. Waiting for their resting time. Anyone's fault. Just different clock hands.

These months are being the ideal for discovering the locations of a land that always was there for us and is still unknown. This time, walking by the side of a copper-haired wolf and seated in the front seats of a cosy and white time ship.
