These trees are probably 3000-4000 years old. It is hard for a mere human to grasp that scale standing next to these ancient organisms.

Pinus densiflora 'Pendula', 2019 photo, Common Name: Japanese Red Pine, Size: #Conifer, 4in. Dark Green, USDA Hardiness Zone 4-7, Michigan Bloom Month x, In Garden Bed HR-D for 1.1 YEARS (HLG). Planted in 2018.
Missouri Botanical Garden: ‘Pendula’ is a weeping form that may be grown in several different ways including (1) spreading along the ground without support as a ground cover, (2) draped over a wall with branches cascading downward or (3) grafted to a standard with branches weeping downward from the point of the graft or staked with branches weeping. Mature shape and height depend upon how plant is grown. It typically grows 3-5' tall over the first 10 years. Dark green needles (to 4"" long).

Medium to large conifer that is native from central and southeastern Europe to western Asia. 40-60’ tall over time (less frequently to 100’). Dense pyramidal habit in youth. "

80-100ft VA Coastal Plain Tree. This tree used to be found all over Tidewater. It is commonly refered to the tree that built tidewater due to the tree being used for various construction purposes. There are three areas along the Virginia Wesleyan Campus that have been planted with these Longleaf Pines.

Unfortunately I was really starting to feel unwell this day -- the beginning of what turned out to be food poisoning -- but I didn't let that keep me from taking the bus to Ta' Pinu Basilica, the Church of Miracles.
A beautiful and spacious 20th-century church, almost no one else was there. I was surprised to find it in the middle of nowhere. Somehow I expected it to be part of a town or village.
