once there was a way

to get back homeward

once there was a way

to get back home ...

- may golden slumbers fill your eyes

- and smiles await you when you rise ...

- and in the end

the love you take

is equal to the love you make ...

This widespread and undemanding tree is more rounded the more isolated it stands.

I haven't seen a Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus) for some time. There was a virus that was decimating the local population as I understand it. We usually have them with us for Winter, but this year, not a one. The Goldfinches arrived enmass the other day, and brought some Siskins with them. I'm happy to see them!

in bonsai

there is a shaping wind in the hand

it flows from thoughts

from a vision

it flows for a lifetime

yet the bonsai is never complete...

when that lifetime ends

the bonsai may pass to another hand

perhaps the thoughts the vision

merge with that hand

perhaps they diverge

perhaps this continues

for several lifetimes

yet the bonsai is never complete...

it is complete only when

every molecule of the bonsai

has returned pollenlike to the ether...

eventually

a single molecule may reappear

it may reappear in a vision

it may reappear in a hand

it may reappear in a wind

These finches have been called "nomadic", "sporadic", and "errattic" in their winter grounds. This is true here. Sometimes we see a lot of them during a winter, and then nothing for a couple of years. There seems to be good numbers around Edmonton this winter.
