Magno Girl asked me "Where is the Black Stump? " I said that that was a hard question to answer!! I explained that when traveling in NSW that we came across at least 3 and there are many places that have a Black Stump. She Said That she wanted to find a Black stump . So I took her out into the bush and she found one. I did have the heart to tell her that we were only 5 minutes from Town!!
Like other early Aussie sayings such as never-never country and beyond the Wallaby, beyond the black stump was an attempt to describe and give a sense of
place, to what many believed was indescribable - those endless plains of inland
Australia. And when people use the term two questions always arise; is there
a black stump? And if there is, where is it? Well there is a black stump, and you can find its remains at Blackall in central Queensland, over 1000 kilometres west of Brisbane
The saying came about after a group of surveyors arrived on Astro station near
Blackall, in 1887. The surveyors used a blackened tree stump as the base for
their measuring equipment. The equipment was so large the tree stump was the
most secure base around. The surveyors were at Astro station to take
longitudinal and latitudinal observations, which were to be used in the accurate mapping of inland Australia. From there they were able to fix the position of all the major towns of southern Queensland.
Before long people considered anything west of Blackall to be - beyond the black stump

Black Stump Rest Area - Building and Structure, Natural, Park and Garden
The Old Black Stump Wine Saloon built in the 1860's and destroyed by fire in 1908 and at this spot is The Black Stump Rest Area. About 10 kilometres north of Coolah at a road junction. The pub was apparently named after the nearby Black Stump Run and Black Stump Creek. As if to strengthen the claim, it is said the Aboriginal name of the area means 'place where the fire went out and left a black stump'. A rest area has been established by the road at the approximate site of the old saloon. There is, of course, a black stump to mark the spot.
Day 229 19/11/08 We have had some well wanted rain and Magno wanted to look at raindrops!! This heavily cropped!!
Today for the scavenger hunt I was going to do in a matchbox. I was just going to take a picture of matches. But while I had my back turned Magno emptied out the matches and got in and got stuck This is her trying to get out....... by the way she ain't no red head.

Today Magno, Tilly and I went to a tracking workshop where we learnt to hunt socks and food (hot dogs) . Today we laid tracks with lots of food and the occasional sock the dogs got the idea pretty quick. Eventually they will hunt just socks and have a feed at the end!! Tomorrow we will lay more tracks in the bush!!
Day 66 03/06/08 "One Object 365 Days Project" Vegemite is a great Australian Icon. It is beaut on toast thinly spread especialy when the butter/marg has melted. It is also great with cheese sandwiches. But only thinly spread if it is to thick its not real nice. Must Thank my Hairdresser Jeremy for coming up with this one!!

Day 84 21/06/08 I have just discovered how to make my own chai latte syrup and it is truly Delicious after making myself a cup and turning my back for a few minutes this was the result!!

Fascinating how the bulbs inside look like chickens :-)
I particularly love the pink lace their nest is decorated with. But then again, I love tiny details. And pink.
