The most distinctive features of the Pilot G2 are the two water vents on the top surface. Under certain circumstances, the G2 can actually suck water up from the ocean through the superstructure. The primary effect is that the release pressure counteracts the hover cushion, forcing the G2 to hover closer to the water. However, this costs speed and efficiency, so it is only used in strange emergencies.

These are two of the pilots we've had fly us into Sudan from Loki (2003, 2004). They are great guys and we feel quite comfortable in their able hands. We usually onlu have one pilot flying us in the village. They are MAF pilots.

The Pilot G2 has two lights set out wide, which actually help the pilot adjust for waves coming in from a broader area. And if there's a race in the dark, well, guess who can see better?

The SBD Dauntless had a two-man crew seated back-to-back; a pilot and a rear-facing gunner. Though reatively slow, the SBD-3 featured armor plating and bullet-proof glass to protect the aircrew and self-sealing gas tanks. The SBD proved to be a steady performer even when called upon to battle the fabled Japanese fighters. With two fixed forward firing machine guns and twin trainable rear guns, the SBD Dauntless could more than handle its own against the lightly armored Japanese fighters. Though agile and mounting powerful weaponry, Japanese fighters were relatively lightly armored (if at all) and offered up a fair fight to the equally-powerful SBD series. The Dauntless would earn itself many an air kill before the end of the war thanks to the know-how and bravery of her crews and deficiencies in the design of her adversary aircraft.

The historic significance of the SBD Dauntless and the aircrews that flew them into battle at Midway is best expressed by a quote from historian George Walsh: "The story of how a small force of US Navy carrier based dive-bombers changed the course of the war for the United States and its Allies, is one of the most dramatic exploits ever achieved by a small group of men in any war. It was a victory where courage and scarifice at the lowest levels of command overcame errors made at staff level. Above all, it was the dive-bomber that delivered a visually thrilling, high-accuracy blow against the Japanese aircraft carriers that, in the space of five short minutes saved a battle that threatened disaster and changed the course of history."
