Former home of the Jefferson Airplane in the 1970's - This home was painted purple when they occupied it. San Francisco 2009
On a beautiful bright day in November this scene, under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, may look peaceful enough but indeed the narrow strait between Marin County (in the background) and San Francisco (on the side I'm standing upon to take this photograph) is one of the world's most tumultuous bodies of water. Up to 335 ft. deep and only a mile and a quarter wide, the Golden Gate is the largest California coastal opening, a portal into which the Pacific Ocean surges. Here the flow of freshwater from many of Northern California's rivers and streams collides with the incoming saltwater from the Pacific creating complex and violent currents.
