'Anatomy' is the science concerned with the physical structure of animals and plants.
Lilies have six 'stamens'. The stamen is made up of an anther and a filament. In the center of the lily flower is the female floral part known as the 'pistil'. It is an elongated green tube with a swollen base where the ovules are housed in the ovary. The long tube of the pistil is known as the 'style', while the very tip of the pistil, which is sticky, is known as the 'stigma'. The sticky tip of the stigma catches pollen grains that later cause the ovules in the pistil to become fertilized and develop into seeds. Most often the stigma tip is three-lobed.
These pistal and stamens are part of an Easter Lily, a plant endemic to both Taiwan and Ryukyu Islands. Lilium longiflorum is a perennial bulb with large, white, trumpet-shaped flowers and a wonderful fragrance. Often known as the "trumpet lily" among gardeners, this plant is also called the Easter lily in its role as a traditional Easter-time treat.
