It's always a challenge searching for that special shot where an interesting composition can be created. How boring it is to just point-and-shoot, hoping for the best. Look around you, stand back from the main image and consider the possibilities of taking a photograph that includes more than just the vehicle.
Those in the bus world can take lessons from train photographers who, it has to be said, sometimes tend to be better at transport photography. There are too many bus pictures where the camera is far too close to the vehicle without anything else to look at. An appealing picture is what makes photography interesting and valuable for future generations to view.
Close up shots are great for that special detail of course, but it's a good principle to consider the bus as the icing on the cake - it's the composition, and therefore the rest of the picture, that brings interest to the shot.
The real challenge for us though is dealing with obstacles on the roads, and our well thought-out plans can be ruined just at the moment we take the photograph. Unless you've done it yourself it's impossible to know how it feels to capture a moving image where the eyes have to be taking in both carriageways, pedestrians who walk in front of the camera, intruding vehicles, cyclists and things you don't want in the photo like road works, lamp posts and the sun suddenly disappearing!
Oh and remember your body balance - lower the shoulders, feet slightly apart, check your camera settings and keep the thing straight when you make the click - no squints please!
Near to Crewe Toll I spotted this nicely kept garden and considered how I could use this in my shot. A little wall provided a handy step-up and I noted the sun was perfectly positioned for a three-quarter angle. However, as you can see it would be luck that would make or break this one and just consider all the things that could have gone wrong at this moment.
The approaches to the Crewe Toll roundabout are usually quite congested and I had to hope that the bus would stop for me to get a break in the traffic. As can be seen Volvo B9TL / Wright Eclipse Gemini 2, number 929 (SN09 CVP) did stop for enough time for me to hang in there and get the photo I wanted. Like I say, luck played its part as other vehicles could have intruded on the near carriageway, or a pedestrian could have walked along the pavement at the railing. The blue sky helped too!
The photograph was taken at Grigor Avenue on Thursday the 16th of April, around 2pm.
A breathtaking morning view, bathed in the soft hues of dawn.
[Location details: Coastal dunes, NSW, Australia]
[Technical information] Exposure - 1/15 sec at ƒ/8.0, Shutter speed - 1/15 sec, Aperture - ƒ/8.0, Focal length - 10 mm, Lens - XF10-24mmF4 R OIS WR, ISO - 3200
The delicate dance of windswept grasses against the vibrant morning sky. The soft, almost ethereal light of the early morning hour casts a magical glow over the coastal dunes, creating a truly captivating scene. The composition, focusing on the interplay of the grasses and the sky, draws the viewer into the moment.
Respecting the delicate ecosystem of this coastal dune system is paramount. Let's all work together to protect these precious natural spaces.
What's your favorite way to experience the magic of a coastal sunrise?

I did not have any wider lens then 50mm with me, so I had to do with what I had - multiple photographs merged in CS5 forming image over 12000 pixels wide.
Update: I've made an effort to be there with the right lens for the past two days but, as it is often with landscapes I was in no luck, the light was not the same... As always, it's not about the camera(or lens in my case)!

They say city planners and the general public alike dislike dark streets at night. A new view to stop the grafitti tagged out shop fronts making sense. See Thru shutters are used on shopping malls, reception, bar and servery applications and areas of conservation.
This is the only way that segregating internal areas in tel aviv work, this is strictly for viewing only, or wherever a see-through shutter is required this is the standard.
This shop sold top quality bongos and congas !

A zebra crossing is a type of pedestrian crossing used in many places around the world. Its distinguishing feature is alternating dark and light stripes on the road surface, resembling the coat of a zebra.

Tel Aviv, it was warm in temp, but cold in vibrations. I like cities, this place has a feel and for that reason I tend to explore.
Tel Aviv belongs to what might be described as a city that sleeps with both eyes open. Old school New York in some parts, visually broken in others, pretentious for the hipsters.
Yes.... i got stopped by some uniformed individuals and..... yes the airport experience was long and extremely pointless. I went out both day and night. Camera, Water and my eyes! Enjoy the night vibes in this album. Thankyou for looking ! Photodel

A very cheeky late night munch. This might be accompanied in the a.m with a big big of food regret. I always assumed street food stalls were a bit dodgy or even unhealthy. I was hungry but i did convince myselves that i wasnt buying anything here. This lone person picking up a £5 bag of fries..... not for me ! I walked on

That time of the day when the demands especially of traffic or business are at a peak ! A woman parked up her bike and went strolled under a canopy to light a cigarette. Maybe she had enough of the rush...
Composition trumps all other aspects of photography. A technically perfect image with poor composition is still destined for the trash, but a beautiful composition with less perfect exposure or sharpness…. can still be a work of art. So before you waste too much time and money on equipment and learning fancy techniques, try learning some basic composition and watch your photography improve nearly instantly.

Custom built over a hundred years ago to be deliberately frozen into arctic ice, the Nansen's Fram was a success despite not reaching the North Pole as originally intended. Fram was used in other Arctic and Antarctic expeditions by various norwegian explorers and is said to have sailed farther north and farther south then any other wooden ship.
Here are the prized cargo from the expedition - powdered milk, compass and a fine Aquavit of 80% proof to keep the explorers warm through the Arctic nights.

The blue light in Tel Aviv, this has never been seen in public before - a super old school high street tailors, looks like a fine art exhibition. My travel adventure has told me that Allenby Street celebrates the spirit of creativity = the bizarre, offbeat, quirky! I still believe this was a bar of some sort bar, or a trendy gathering place to drink eat and smoke !
Ansel Adams Son Michael, told me the story of how his dad got his most famous shot "Moon and Half Dome" in Yosemite: He took it on his way to the grand hotel the Awahnee-- just like you or I could have! I actually do have one!
A bag of uncooked rice. Uncooked dried beans or peas work just as well. Fill it as much as you want, squeeze out the air and seal. Also, if you're feeling adventurous, you can sew a bag yourself and fill it with plastic beads from a craft store.
This acts as a tripod of sorts. If you have no place to set up a tripod or its uneven or whatever reason, you can throw down this bag and set your camera on it and fire the timer off. I've used it a few times myself. The bag fits in a pocket or camera bag and if you end up ruining it, who cares, its a bag of rice.
I used to work in a small warehouse called "Peca Products". One of my duties- which varied from packing boxes with lens cleaning kits to silk-screening things- was to silk-screen print the instructions on "the Pillow pod". It was a thick denim or canvas rectangle that they then sewed up and filled with plastic beans. If you want to, you can Google "The Pillow Pod, Peca Products" and buy one yourself.
Or you can fill a zipper bag with dry rice or beans yourself. I like this method because I can make it as big or as small as I want and the plastic bag also helps if the ground or whatnot is wet.
Today's theme for We're Here! is "photography tips"... and this is mine.
