This is a painting my grandmother did for the funeral home. It's in the main arrangement office. When I was in high school, I would sit in this office and make prank phonecalls, and I would stare at this picture and think that I bet I could jump across that gap in the middle of the the stream and not hit the water.

My phone rings while I'm getting ready, startling me slightly. Who could it be? It was the groom himself, ringing up to see if everything was going ok (and to say a quick "I love you" - aww :).

Having previously visited a few either very restored or rebuilt churches on my way over here it was refreshing to arrive at Church Broughton and find a complete medieval church, and a rather attractive one too, with its neat little stunted spire poking up above the parapet of its sturdy west tower. The church is a long, low building that was basking rather handsomely in the sun by this time (a contrast to the dull weather I'd had earlier that day) and the churchyard was looking particularly attractive, a chap was mowing part of it some distance off so we exchanged cheerful waves as I approached the door.

St Michael's is a mostly 14th century building but with much evidence of earlier work, particularly inside where some Norman work remains. The interior is light and spacious, stripped back to the bare stone but this at least is pleasantly and lightly hued. One Norman pillar with a distinctive scalloped capital remains at the end of the north arcade and the curious font with its simple carved pattern is also of this period. The fittings are mostly more recent in date and most of the glazing is clear which allows more light to flood in; the only exceptions are the eats windows of the chancel and south aisle, both fairly late works by Hardmans respectively.

This was a very pleasant church to explore and good to find it open and welcoming. Before I left the chap who was mowing outside came in and we had a long chat about the glass as he said they may need to spend some money on it. I did a quick assessment of the windows' stability and advised that there was no urgent need for such expenditure as their stained glass should be sound for some time yet, which is what I'd expect of early 20th century Hardman glass. He asked if I could send some of my photos so we exchanged details accordingly.

About a week later I got a rather terse phonecall demanding to know why I hadn't emailed these photos. The intervening days had been rather traumatic for me, first losing much of the text for the book I was writing and then learning of my father's death which hit me very hard and left me unable to think of much else. I explained this and little else was said, thus I dutifully sent the photos with a covering email but never got an acknowledgement back. A pity as that's what sticks in my mind now when I think of Church Broughton nearly six years later. I hope the photos were of use, but at least if they didn't get them they'll be here for all to see now.

On the roof of a building today overlooking the Firth of Forth and Edingburgh Castle. I couldn't walk to the car to get my camera so the phone got some use for something other than phonecalls.

This is a picture of what should be myself in a state of sleep. But it is not. This is me showing you what I should be doing right now....sleeping. Because I am tired. There is no reason to ever be awake when you are tired. (Well, unless you might be driving, I suppose...) I didn't have time to take pictures today, and I ran out of ideas by this time... so I went for an easy shot. Like I said, I'm tired.

A lovely day was had by all today at my beloved Laura & Dad's house. They were so nice to host a "get together" with the family to celebrate mine and my Aunt Lisa's birthdays. Very sweet! It's always nice to spend the day together, but I always end up leaving these kinds of things feeling sort of bittersweet. (in a good way!) I wish we could have more days like this, and I hate to see the time fly by so fast.

**THIS JUST IN: On a very happy note, I just recieved an unexpected and much needed phonecall from an old (but GREAT) friend of mine.

A happy ending to a very nice day!

A retro phone call between my two retro girls >_<

They must be talking about girly stuffs as boyfriends, makeup, clothes and ... What else ? It's for you to tell me :D

Testing out Dell Voice (in Canada) - calling myself from my Google Voice number - which btw, spells, GO VEGAN.

But helpful too. I tend to use the headset during the day when I have phonecalls to make. If I have to wait on hold or if I'm going to be a while, I can still sew while I chat. It's heaven for multitasking.

graveyards are 2am - 6am. phonecalls from the milkman, and from some poor soul woken up by folks moving house upstairs. i told the second fella to go take pictures, bet there's something illegal going on there. he laughed. i think he was delirious from lack of sleep at that point. but apparently my music made his morning.

also, for being completely without any cancon requirements whatsoever, holy crap i played a lot of canadian music! and it really struck me how there is a distinct sound to it.

And without further ado the King paid Wage a visit and ordered him by "Royal Decree" to wake up.

Wage was amazed that his friends went to such great lengths to bring him round in time for his flight home on Saturday.

I like this pic, cause I feel like I don't fit into my own world. I am a different pattern than my surroundings. I am plaid on stripes. My world is the surface of the moon.

Was the phone call painful too ?

Meet James, graphic artist and - as part of design agency ZeroDotNine - the guy behind my new logo. Whatever your design needs and wherever you are, it's only a phonecall or email to find out what James and his team can do for you.

Under the guise of Houseworx he's also a DJ and promoter and it was during a set break at Southampton's Orange Rooms that we shot this (handheld cam at f/2 1/30, handheld strobe cam left full cto, bare strobe cam right behind). Heh, not an entirely serious shot since, right after they sat down, Luka got a phonecall (from Miku!)

I got off the train and went to the library. Got on the wireless and checked my email. Someone from the New York Times was writing an article about the new face of librarianship and wanted to chat and wanted to know if i was at ALA in DC.

I emailed back and said actually I was in NY on my way to a wedding in Brooklyn. She said that was great because she was actually *in* Brooklyn. I said well right now I was at the library but I could call her on my new-fangled cellular telemaphone.

This is me talking to the New York Times.

Phonecall, midnight:

"Hi mum. I'm in someone's house"

"Do they know you're there?"

"Yes mum, thanks for the trust.."

Christina (random woman who picked us up near a motorway) let us stay in her house!

Taken shortly after we each had some quality alone time and I returned phonecalls from everyone I know (probably you) at the park where I accidentally took a homeless man's bench. Never a dull moment, my friends.

A touch of a sad shot again.... end of yet another era. :(

The lovely replacement D300 that I was given by the camera shop where I bought the camera has also died!!! It honestly is nothing I am doing wrong!!! I am using proper nikon batteries, approved CF card etc, variety of lenses, but once again I have experienced the whole dying battery thing, discharging 100% battery in 12 hours and heating up of the camera as it does so (and its not a false battery low) with no shutter depressions at all and camera tucked away nicely in my camera bag.

It is a mystery!

So it is once again going back to Grays, but for a full refund this time on the whole kit, I get the impression they are a bit fed up of my weekly phonecalls! So this is going to leave me with no camera, although Stumpy has promised me the D90 again! (give that man a large drink)

Tis Sods law when a photo trip to Northumbria is planned for summer! no camera to use and no car to get us there Arggggh!!!!! (did I mention my car is broken too! with unidentifiable electrical faults!)

The plan is to hold fire for a short while in purchasing a replacement, use the D90 in the meantime and see if any of the April fool style rumours about the impending arrival of the Nikon D400 are true... and if so, it would make sense to ditch the D300 brand and try for one of those instead! or failing that: I sell a kidney and upgrade to a D700 or two kidneys for a D3.

So, this shot, a tricky one! My mum wanted a picture of some daisies for the little girls room as it matched the tiling. We both independently spotted a huge patch of wild daisies around Papworth in Cambridge.

At the weekend on my way to pick up Stumpy I stopped and took these shots: standing right by the bypass, camera in hand, making a right spectacle of myself trying to capture wild daisies while the wind blew a total gale each time I pressed the shutter. It was amazing that I got anything in focus at all! I do confess to a slight element of cheating though... these look like small daisies in which case this would be a good shot, but they are the huge wild variety! Ah well, photographic version of poetic license.

So, farewell again D300, anyone want to buy a kidney, or two?

Thanks to Nesster for the texture!!!!
