Tuesday I rode for the first time one of Victoria's u-bicycle. It was cool.
There's a few vagaries to work out before the entire experience can be considered a success but it seems one complete ride is sufficient to cover them all.
Firstly, one needs money in their Ubicycle WALLET. The 'wallet' is where one deposits money -- it can be done using the app -- BEFORE the app will unlock the bike.
The next significant item in completing the transaction is to lock the bike once its use is no longer required.
LOCK-OUT IS DONE MANUALLY by placing one's thumb on the actuator and physically pushing the lock through the spokes. Remember: it's a good idea to secure the helmet by engaging its strap within the lock.

I strapped on the GoPro chestcam, put on their helmet and zapped the QR code with my phone. No Joy.
After contacting U-bike using the app's text messenger, it seems I left out one critical step -- more money.
It seems the fifty bucks users give them through PayPal gets one nothing. It's just a deposit. To actually ride the bikes they want more money. This is to be transferred to one's U-bicycle 'wallet'. This too can be done through the app if connected to one's PayPal account.
Hopefully it will work next time. No spare time left this day.

Sunday I cycled 5km (3 miles) around the Royal Roads University (RRU) grounds.
I haven't cycled here since March 28, 2010, and then it wasn't much more than a cursory look while passing by the 14km Marker on the Galloping Goose Trail (GGT). At that time, there was an open gate by which one could enter into the RRU grounds unimpeded.

There's perhaps over 15km of trails within these grounds and this video covers only 5km (45 minutes cycling reduced to 10 minutes)

The phone app showed, seemingly forever, that the plane was there, but still in the air. I wanted word he was safely on the ground...not that I could do anything about it if not!

Two apps I used to record my ride yesterday.
RealRider to record the route and keep me safe using it's 'Crash Detection Technology'
'Ride with GPS' recording the route and collecting data on route including speed, height, timings etc.. Then using 'Relive' app the info from Ride with GPS' gets converted into a neat video! (See video few pictures back)
Interesting seeing the data, the middle of the three ones shows speed and height overlapped over the period of the ride.
Cool eh!

Sheffield and Peak District views, headed to Monyash for lunch. Then went through the ford at Tissington, it was a bit deeper than I thought!! Very muddy/slippy on the lovely Via Gellia road! Saw only two other bikes at Matlock! Then popped across for a coffee and a browse at CMC (Chesterfield Motorcycles) before heading home..
Not too chilly either!

Besides the major invasion of privacy, I didn't like that many of their app specials were buy one large sandwich and get one free. If you are with someone, that's great! If you are eating alone, you order two Big Macs or two Quarter Pounders with cheese and you save a lot of money. You also end up consuming a lot of fat and calories in one meal, especially if you get fries and a drink. Also, the app works fine ninety-percent of the time. However, there have been many times when the app didn't work when I was at a McDonald's. I tried to activate the app MANY times, but it wouldn't work. I ordered food without getting app specials. I get back home and the app was miraculously working again. I will definitely be eating there less often. I considered a boycott of McDonald's, but I decided to just cut WAY back on my visits. This could also lead to a much healthier diet. I hope it does.
