South Street marks the historic southern boundary of Philadelphia, running west from Penn's Landing. The first seven blocks reminded me in many ways of Haight Street in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, with lots of used clothing stores, and an appeal to the same demographic. Oddly, both of them have a Whole Foods Market . The buildings along South Street vary in age, but the oldest are from the early 19th century. If I remember correctly from previous visits, South Street is much more lively at night than is the Haight Ashbury.

The most important men (including his children, who are now grown up, but I decided to post some pictures of them with daddy) in his life. John and Phil Spector. Phil was John's producer in his solo years. He produced, among others, the highly acclaimed 'Imagine' album.

Phil Spitalny (November 7, 1890, Tetiev, Ukraine (territory of Russian Empire) – October 11, 1970, Miami Beach, Florida) was a musician, music critic, composer and bandleader heard often on radio during the 1930s and 1940s. He rose to fame after he brought together an orchestra with only female musicians, a novelty at the time.
On radio, Spitalny was introduced as Phil Spitalny and His All-Girl Orchestra featuring Evelyn and her Magic Violin. The magic violinist was Evelyn Kaye Klein, who used the professional name, Evelyn Silverstone. She helped Spitalny find the women he needed to assemble his all-female orchestra. Together, they auditioned more than 1000 musicians in New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Pittsburgh.
Spitalny's 22-piece band was known as the Hour of Charm Orchestra during the time it appeared on the radio program, The Hour of Charm, hosted by Arlene Francis. The program aired in various timeslots on CBS and NBC from 1934 to 1948.
Evelyn Kaye Klein and Spitalny married in June 1946.

When walking along Ottawa's Sussex Drive you are pretty much guaranteed a gathering outside the House of Barons Barber Shop www.houseofbarons.ca be it barbers or clients, after all it is a very busy spot.
Meet Phil, he had just stepped out of House of Barons and was looking particularly well groomed. He was chatting to one of the barbers, Shane (Stranger 195/200) who recognized me.
In spite of having to get on his way Phil agreed to participate in my Human Family Project.
Phil is from Gatineau Quebec (just across the Ottawa River), he works as a Massage Therapist, he specializes in working with athletes and is actually the Massage Therapist for Canada's Male Volleyball Team. A true sports enthusiast Phil plays hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer, although it is recreational he tells me things can get pretty competitive. Phil has also worked part time in a sports shop for 11 years. Phil had been very generous with his time so I gave him a contact card and he headed off.
Thank you Phil is was a pleasure meeting you.
This is portrait #86 in my Human Family Project.

I had a blast at Philly Brickfest, even though I was only there for one day. I helped out for the majority of the day at the Ctizen Brick table as the official "Loss Prevention Specialist". Hopefully Philly Brickfest will continue to go, as this was only the first year for it.
-Enjoy
