Mice can squeeze under openings that are 1/4 inch (6 mm) high roughly the thickness of a #2 pencil or through round openings 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) in diameter roughly the size of a dime. These sizes are based on measurements of mouse skulls.

Bed Bugs often hide on and near things commonly used objects. Unfortunately this often includes childrens toys and stuffed animals. A proper bed bug treatment should include a thorough inspection, treatment to completely eliminate bugs and eggs, and follow up visits to monitor for activity.

To reduce the rodent population, traps were pre-baited for one week with bacon. After a week, the traps were set at dusk: over 30 rodents were removed from the alley. For more information on rodents: www.nysipm.cornell.edu/whats_bugging_you/rodents/default.asp

I use this under-utilized spice as a substitute for Kashmiri red pepper in my Indian recipes, which gives the red colour, but no heat, to the dishes. It's a wonderful colourant in foods for those who react to modern red dyes. It's also traditional in many different cuisines.

The fragrance, potency, and effectiveness of organic herbs and spices are far superior to conventional. Even the colour is richer! It's that kind of quality that sets my personal and professional products apart.

Don't buy prepacked tea bags, where you can't even determine the quality. Go for the real thing! If you are making healing teas, baths, soaps, or other projects, always get the finest quality, and protect the Earth, our Mother, by using organically grown where possible.

If you would like to experiment with these magical and healing plants but don't want to order giant quantities or want to waste your time shopping around for the best quality, let me do it for you! I make all of my products with the freshest, most organic, best preserved and most potent herbs I can find, and I am always willing to help promote herb use by sharing my stash or my experience.

Skin secretions and urine droplets left by rodents can produce "grease marks" or sebum trails. Thicker trails indicate higher activity. Rodent activity in this image also includes chew marks, where rodents have chewed through wire covers to make the opening larger.

The mile-a-minute weevil was released for biological control of mile-a-minute weed in 2004. The adult insect feeds on leaves producing "shotgun" damage, and females lay eggs in vine terminals. Feeding and oviposition by the insect reduce plant biomass. For more information: canr.udel.edu/biocontrol/mile-a-minute-weed/

Bed bugs are hitchhiking insects that travel with people on their belongings, such as work bags. If you work in a profession where you are exposed to bed bugs, or if you are dealing with an infestation at home, you can take steps to prevent the spread of bed bugs by creating a clean zone at your home. This is an area where you transition from the outdoor world to your home. The idea is to have a bin for items that were out in the world, and a bin for items that are only used in the home. Upon return to your home, place daily items in one bin, and use home items, such as a pair of comfy clothing. Clothes from the day can be dropped onto the white sheet, balled up and run through the dryer (high heat, 122 F, for 15 minutes) to kill bugs.

We are developing a factsheet on this information that will be listed below when complete. In the mean time, refer to our guide, "How to Get Bed Bugs Out of Your Belongings" hdl.handle.net/1813/55760

Rodents chew on objects to obtain actual or perceived resources. Rodents might chew on wires because they perceive these as twigs that hold liquid or insect larva for food. The size of teeth marks can help you distinguish between mice (1-2 mm wide) and rats (3-4 mm wide) when comparing pairs of teeth.

Common Wasp (Vespula vulgaris).

Wasp nest in a bird box photographed from above in the studio a couple of days after it was treated by pest control as the wasps were causing a nuisance on school grounds.

The nest contained the queen wasp and many workers including all stages of development from eggs through larvae to adults about to emerge from their papery cells. Some of the larvae were still alive.

These two mice were found in a sticky trap in a school kitchen. The one to the right was still alive upon inspection, but the one in the back had obviously been there for awhile, providing a food source for other pests. Looking to evict mice? So the story continues.. I thought I was catching a mouse, when I found a cockroach in my kitchen! I bought some Trap-a-Roach traps, and the pest control's biologist claimed mice wouldn't stick to them - until this happened, two nights later! So there was a mouse as well, and it was so much stuck to the Roachtrap that I had no clue how to free it without ripping off it's skin or breaking it's bones. I put the mouse to permanent sleep in a gentle way, and felt sad and bad afterwards. I usually set caught mice free in a nearby park.

Thanks to Hoy Hoy for creating such a rodent-unfriendly trap! Somuch for Japanese Technology!
