Perth, Western Australia, Australia

Perth is the 4th largest city in Australia, with a population of around 1.5 million. It is a lovely city, despite being isolated from the rest of Australia.

This postcard view of the Perth skyline is taken from Kings Park.

However these are diagrams (job cards to those outside the railway industry) post 1987 'Easement of manning'. Basically the end of the Fireman / Secondman / Drivers Assistant. Note the empty 'Drivers Assistant' column.

The Secondman could only be removed under strict criteria so some diagrams still show a Secondman. Usually where regular shunting with a 'big engine', ie not a shunter or where no PNB could be rostered.

Long-term army disposals retailer in the Perth CBD Wellington Army Surplus located on the corner of Wellington Street and Pier Street which held its closing down sale in mid 2017 after trading for 75 years. The business in the end took over several shops along Wellington Street with different sections such as Army surplus, camping, jeans and workwear in the different sections of the store.

The site was sold for Brisbane-based Blue Sky developers with the single level shops demolished to construct a 30 floor tower for student accommodation in the centre of Perth. The two level brick building facade on the corner of Wellington and Pier Streets dating from 1897 has been retained and will be incorporated into the new development. It is worth noting that all universities in the Perth metropolitan area are located in the suburbs and not near the CBD which will affect the success of the development.

As a Scot I make no apology for the tartan and shortbread image of a great deal of my shots and this selection covers this in it's entirety!! I'm sure however many may delight in the colour and pageantry of this wonderful occasion. The occasion was a display for Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee also the celebration of Perth's newly awarded City Status. Many Pipers travelled far and wide to join this display, (1,000 Pipers) the sound of the mass pipes was truly amazing!! a dream of a day. Enjoy my photographs please!! respect my copyright email if you wish to use them.To all the wonderful people captured in these shots THANK YOU FOR A MAGICAL DAY x

Perth Stadium located in Burswood adjacent to the Swan River, Armadale railway line and Graham Farmer Freeway. It is the main venue for AFL football replacing Subiaco Oval as the home ground of the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers for the 2018 season. It is also the venue for large-drawing cricket matches what were previously played at the nearby WACA ground. Under a sponsorship arrangement it is currently known as Optus Stadium.

The stadium seats around 60,000 spectators as an oval with the ability to be reconfigured for for a rectangular field with a capacity of 65,000. The development of the Burswood stadium was chosen over a potential redevelopment of Subiaco to a similar capacity ground in mid 2011 - the previous plan was the build in Kitchener Park and demolish the existing Subiaco Oval until theconcept was abandoned in early 2009. The Burswood site selection was made due to its lack of development constraints and the presence of the railway line enabling a large station and sidings to be constructed.

The stadium site was previously part of Burswood Park Public Golf Course which closed and the site was split between the stadium and an adjacent hotel development servicing nearby Crown Casino. Decades prior to that the stadium site was Goodwood Racecourse - located alongside current Belmont Park Racecourse both were privately developed before being taken over by the Western Australian Turf Club in 1945 and Goodwood was subsequently closed.

Opening in 1974 and closing in 2002 the Perth Entertainment Centre was for many years the largest concert venue in the city (seating 8,003). It holds the record for "the largest purpose built regular theatre (containing a proscenium arch) in the world". It's been locked up and unused for 8 years and is soon to be demolished as part of the Northbridge Link project.

This was the first bridge in Perth over the River Tay. It was completed in 1771. It is called the Old Bridge.

Underground entrance to new bus station in Wellington Street in the Perth city centre built as part of the Perth City Link project. It connects to the existing signalised intersection at William Street. It was not yet opened at the time of these pictures in June 2016.

Perth City Link is a major urban renewal project and involved lowering part of the Fremantle railway line west of Horseshoe Bridge where yards were formerly located and demolition of the former Perth Entertainment Centre built in 1974, replaced by Perth Arena.

The underground busport replaces the former Wellington Street bus station which opened in 1973 and also made way for the project.
