While trying to find secondhand pieces for my and Dracula’s Halloween costumes this week I came across these pants. I am not a pants wearer usually. You will almost always find me in some sort of running shorts, skirts, dresses, and soft layers. The pants are made of a fiber called Lyocell and according to Wikipedia’s article it is a “semi-synthetic fiber made from wood pulp, typically from trees like eucalyptus, birch, and oak. The natural cellulose from the wood is dissolved and spun into a strong fiber, which is then used to create fabric. Lyocell is known for being a sustainable option due to its production process, which recycles solvents and water, and its biodegradable nature.” I honestly hadn’t done much research on it until today and I am very curious. As long as I remember I have hated pants. (Except JNCO jeans and wide corduroy skater pants in the 90’s.) As a woman with some big soft curves everywhere; pants and the constant changing of what’s available due to trends has been the bane of my existence. I have tried over and over to wear jeans and it feels like a prison for my legs. As I age and my body’s cycles (especially that of bloat) have become more apparent; comfort is almost always paramount now. These pants are loose and truly buttery soft feeling. I know they lack structure and border on pajama pants, but I have already found another used pair in blue on eBay I love them so much. I see these being a consistent wardrobe piece for a long while. They have a lot of stretch in the waist which I am really enjoying. Oh and they are from brand Knox Rose. I paired them two different ways. Once with a boxy cropped short sleeve shirt I made out of a thrifted table cloth, a sort of tea time garden party pastel blazer with the cutest little floral buttons, my purple suede sneakers, and a wooden disc necklace. Everything in that outfit was thrifted. The second time was to go out to dinner and a short walk from our home to the tavern. I wore my black Tom’s (bought new several years ago), a sage green eyelet spaghetti strap tank top (Of an unknown brand and fabric. Although I’d hazard a guess at fully synthetic and fast fashion, but was bought secondhand.), a burnout velvet blue robe with a sort of warm colored floral imagery all over it and fringe (thrifted), and a large plastic amber pendant necklace (thrifted for TEN CENTS CSD 20 yrs ago). I really love finding a new to me piece of clothing that checks a lot of boxes for comfort and style. If you’ve made it this far through my style and secondhand shopping rambling I just want to say this still feels sort of awkward for me to post this sort of stuff here. It’s funny to me because I used to make YouTube videos where I changed on camera and posted almost 6 days a week with photos of my face and body. I am going to consider this a trial period to see if I find a connection here for this stuff. I really appreciate anyone taking the time to listen, as it were, when I talk at length about stuff that is important to me. <3

I've been meaning to create an Inspiration Board for many years, and now that I've been gently pushed into creating one, I love the results! I'm actually surprised! I must say it's unbelievably hard to define your style and what inspires you. My main loves where wood, light pastel peaches, vintage finds and natural beauty.

From a 365 Project I did here on Flickr back in my first years on the site: “Today I woke up cheerful so I thought I'd clean myself up for work. I look pretty good here. I also wanted to try something completely different for me. I almost always focus on my eyes in photos since I really feel like they have the most power. Do I look like someone you'd entrust half a million dollars to?“

I have spent a lot of time thinking about my personal style and how I can use it to express how I am feeling, what I find interesting or important, and as a creative outlet for so much longer than I had initially thought. I’ve mentioned having a bad memory before, but I think I had absolutely forgotten about these style focused posts from all the way back in 2006/2007. In my NOW brain I see a real style adventure starting in 2014/2015, but now I can see this isn’t the case.

Ok, so listen, my dear sweet Flickr… here’s the thing. In what now feels like a past life; I was once a style blogger. When I had an instagram account I had a fairly large following on a style focused one called The Werewolf Style Guide. I wrote about what it was like as someone who dressed mostly goth as a teen/young adult who found color in her 30’s. I wrote about being someone on the larger side and about being someone who fell in line with a lot of societal rules about what people my shape or size or age should or shouldn’t wear by dressing fairly plain. I wrote about learning about wearing makeup in her late 30’s. I found joy in trying the things I was drawn to and dressing as a form of walking art. Using secondhand clothes as a way to become a walking breathing spectacle. I really loved putting together interesting outfits and talking about it. I don’t really have an outlet for those sorts of photos and discussion. I know thats not normally what I talk about here or the sort of stuff I usually share, but I hope if you’ve found your way over here you’ll stick around if I intersperse some of my style/secondhand fashion ramblings. It’s a form of art paired with photography that means a lot to me as both have helped me really fall into the person I feel I was meant to become. Sort of a clown, sort of a cacophony of color and pattern and texture, mostly nonsense most of the time. Thanks for listening to me ramble and I hope these speak to some people the same way some of my non-person focused photography does.
