Seashore cliff far up north. Come into being millions of years ago, shaped and smoothened by waves, storms and ice ages ever since.
Trees at a shoreline. Lake nearby Berlin / Germany. Berlin has many lakes. This one we visited for the first time during a short visit to Berlin. I was impressed by the persistence of those trees that still formed leaves and grew despite their unusual way to grow. It is an unspectacular image, but this place created some nice childhood memories. I spend as a child many weekends at and on such a lake where my parents had set up a tent at a permanent campsite for a couple of summer seasons.
This tree root stood near the middle of a spring fed stream. I can only imagine that during a dry period a small sapling emerged and took root. Beating the odds it grew to maturity and now even though just a stump remains it is "Persistence even in death."
The years have certainly left their mark on this millions of years old seashore cliff. However - unlike many other things in our world - storms, winters, and ice ages have only made it smoother.

This tiny 1 day old Hyena cub was very keen to explore its surroundings and tried several times to escape from mom, even though he could not yet use his back legs properly. Mom just kept picking him up and gently returning him to the den.

NS 1635, a high hood SD40-2, works the riverfront in Alton, IL, and a pleasant March afternoon.
I initially saw this train heading north thru Wood River earlier in the day, and kept with it as much as I could until this shot was taken in the evening. He took quite a while working in the yard in Alton, and ended up getting a new crew late in the afternoon to continue work. This is the first time I've been able to snag a train in this area. I almost went home, too, before this guy came to the riverfront.

Some persistence paid off today as I pushed the boundaries of "lunch" to catch Wheeling 96 leaving Toledo several times. Early cloud problems gave way to better skies blowing in from the west and my final shot of them just past Pearson Park in Oregon was the real winner for the day showing off the "matched" 4 unit consist. Thai orchid growing indoor in my Gold Coast hinterland home produced these blooms months ago. The yellows are slightly burnishing and the turgidity diminishing but it is still hanging on.
Long past the season to grow and show off its beauty,

This little Song Sparrow was singing its heart out, and in honor of its persistence, I decided to dress up its image with some added text. While visiting the tulip fields, we noticed some beautiful tulips growing in a field that had clearly been planted with corn last year. The bokeh is the collapsed and weathered corn stalks.

Persistence pays off. Thirteen years trying to dig this white hibiscus out from a thick clump of giant bird of paradise it's been a single stem forever and barely any roots came out with the stump. It was doubtful whether it would survive the move. Now planted in a large pot in shade it has put on new growth and several blooms lately. Since this was a long time coming there is no rush to stick it in the ground it deserves a place where it can thrive. Persistence pays.

A wonderfully warm and sunny Spring day today so I checked out the area where these, new to me, bees are nesting. They are a furrowing bee, nesting in the ground.
I didn't have to wait long for a couple to pop up out of their nest.
This one sat still long enough for a couple of shots.

Surrounded by fall colours, this heron demonstrated patience and persistence while looking for fish in this small pond.
I have been watching this blackbird in the garden for several weeks - possibly even months - as it developed techniques to extract buggy nibbles from a feeder. Normally, blackbirds don't go near feeders but this one decided it had had enough of waiting for the starlings to deliver morsels. Initially, it started flying into the feeder in the hope some nibbles would fall. They did, but were mostly stolen by other birds on the ground. The technique developed into hovering by the feeder whilst plucking out the odd nibble. Finally, it learned to overcome feeder movement and perch on the base as it is here. This allows it to nibble nibbles to its heart's content.
